Have you considered a Montessori school? Dodson Montessori is an HISD magnet school close to downtown.

There are several excellent public schools in SW Houston as well: Parker, Horn, Lovett, and Kolter.

Are you looking for a Christian (private) school or a charter (public) school? I can recommend one of each.

St. Thomas Episcopal is a traditional private school with great academics & classical curriculum. Uniforms are required. Tuition is a bit higher than Catholic schools. Daily chapel. If you believe in plenty of structure and don't mind some demanding homework, check it out. They are in the Meyerland/610 area.

Medical Center Charter is actually located in the Maplewood area, not the Med Center area. They also have a classical curriculum. They have a more diverse socio-economic student body. The school is less structured. They have a Montessori based curriculum especially in the lower grades. Students wear uniforms here too.
