We are moving to Houston in March 2013 and I'm looking for good pre-k and k programs. I want to find potential schools first and follow with temporary housing -- 1 to 1.5 years. Any advice on schools and family friendly neighborhoods? I have a 3 1/2 year old and a 22 month old. We walk to the park everyday, enroll in swimming and music classes regularly, and love to go to the library. We would love not to have to drive too far to continue our regular activities. Thanks, Cristina
Check out Katy schools and their ratings. Katy is just west of Houston and west of the energy corridor. Katy Times newspaper, Katy Chamber of Commerce, Katy ISD: All have websites. Katy is a real family town.81403
You can start here: http://www.greatschools.org/find-schools/ Type in the zip code and you will be able to narrow down your search and decide which schools you want to tour after reading the parent reviews.

Make sure you talk to the HR department at your new job, and don't be afraid to contact a real estate professional--even if you're going to be renting. They're great sources of knowledge when it comes to the amenities like parks, libraries, shopping, etc.
Hi, I am in a very similar situation. I have a 4 yr old and 9 month old and we too will be in Houston March 2013, short term as well. I was wondering if you guys have made any decisions, whether yes or no's to certain areas. My husband and I lived in Houston once before, but it was pre-kids! There are so many factors to consider now, that it is very overwhelming. 81715
I know this might be a little late but i would try West Houston. We've lived here for about 3 years and we love it! I would consider it the Energy Corridor or Memorial/Spring Branch area. We send our children to Grace School and we love it. Check out their website: www.graceschool.org. They will take students from 20 months through 8th grade.82429
