This school is one of the worst in Humble ISD. The faculty is awful, specifically the principals. They will harass your student before contacting you and then give them an unreasonable punishment for the smallest infractions. Kingwood High or Kingwood Park are much better schools compared to Atascocita High.
I find it very disappointing that today I dropped off my sons homework (that he forgot at home) at the front desk, but he never received it. When I tried to telephone Atascocita High School at 3:45 I was only able to reach the operators voice mail. After spending 45 minutes trying to find any number to call on there web site ( of which I only found three ) or internet I was unsuccessful. Heaven forbid it was a real emergency.!!!
We have not been impressed by AHS this year. We feel like some of her teachers do not communicate with the parents. As much as I want high school to prepare her for college, I still want to know what is going on in the classroom so I can facilitate her learning as well.
This was a great year for Atascocita High School. The teachers need to learn how to communicate better with the parents. The district has a website for homework and missed assigment etc.. But the teachers can not keep it up dated or lack of the knowledge to use it. It is a great tool thst need to be utilized. Some parent are really concerned and involved in their children's life. You have to be very persistant. But over all it was a great year and the school di well.
i have had a great experience here at AHS! i love the way the school is laid out, and the teachers are great. AHS and Humble isd offer many great programs that allow you to advance in the real world. The teachers know what there doing and how to run things in their classroom. The best part is there are so many clubs, activities and sports that you can join and become apart of. it is easy to make freinds and enjoy your High School experience. This school has been great to me all four years that i have been here and i wouldn't want to change a thing!
This high school though still in it's infancy, provides a muti- cultural education to it's entire student body. The demographics encompass several ethnic, socio-economic classes. They provide outstanding education in the arts, theater and has a promising sports arena.
My son graduated from AHS in May2010. He started there his 10th grade year. My son really wanted to go to AHS after a year of watching most of his friends get into drugs and gangs at HHS in his 9th grade year. So when we moved we decided to move close enough that he could attend AHS. My son ended up being so disappointed in his high school experience at this school. He actually had quite a few friends that he went from K- 9th with that were at AHS with him. He hardly ever saw any of them the three years he was there. That school is so over crowded. The kids are all separated by color houses. Even after Humble ISD built Summer Creek HS to help handle the over crowding it is still over crowded. Thank God for SCHS.
This is our first year at AHS and so far I have had a pleasant experience. It is hard for a school with almost 3000 students to have a intimate feel but I believe that its design tries to address that feeling. As a parent it is my feeling that if a student wants to be involved they can be, or if they want to be invisible they can do that too. Its really like life either you want to join in or you don't. Most kids don't like school, and quite frankly if a student is not getting the material, it has been my experience that it is up to the student to accept the help offered by the school staff, tutoring, or other activities. It is not up to the teacher to do the work for the student or to beg them to want good grades.
My daughter is a senior this year and has fallen from the top 25% of her class to barely the top 50% due to the administration not correcting issues and 'sententcing students' to long term which they do not recieve any help for honors calsses and they care nothing of correcting this issue. She was not a self learner she would have been flunking by now. The administration does not pass on any info to other students or parents and the kid 'gets lost'. The idea of a prinicpal going up every garde with you until u graduate allows for hostility and someone always reminding you of you previous mistakes and never letting you forget them and amking any punishment more severe.. What a waste!
I am amazed by many of the comments posted here. How can a school be rated by the attitude of the students toward learning? Yes, this school is large, therefore a degree of alienation will be felt by students who don't join student organizations and activities. The same could be said of any large suburban high school. I also don't see the racial polarization as someone suggested. I think the criteria that matters most should be whether the staff is caring, competent, and professional. This is my first year at AHS, but my tenth year of teaching, so, with some degree of comparison, I can honestly say we do well under that criteria. Our administration is responsive to problems and actively seeks to improve. We have challenging course offerings and many great student resources. We have top rate sports teams and a good facility. What more could one want?
i think the school should ease up on some of the rules. like the id's. i understand we have to wear them. to get into school. but if were not leaving it i think it would be ok if we took them off
This school is just too large. It is difficult for students to get to know each other. Good course offerings but that is about it. Also racially polarized. Not all that it is cracked up to be.
AHS is an amazing school. the information about crime rates is entirely false! According to crime rates statistics our areas crime rates have decreased, and home sales have increased because homes are being repossesed in Walden. Our teachers are amazing, and always there to help. If a student doesnt understand the material they are asked, and in some cases pleaded to come into tutoring. There is always a teacher in every subject ready to help in the mornings and after school. Some teachers are even available for tutoring 3 hours after school has ended. If a student does not comprehend the material it was their fault. Dr. Kohn was an amazing principal. His ideas elevated the campus, but were brought down by our current principal. AHS is an amazing campus and the reason there aren't more positve postings is because the good parents are serving in the PTSA. AHS is amazing.
to me, Atascocita High School was such a disappointment. Ive been there now for 3 years and each year it gets worse. Most of the students there do not want to be there and do not care about their education. i totally disagree that the teachers don't care about your learning at that school. they try so hard to teach the students the material but since they dont care about learning than nothing gets accomplished. .
I believe that AHS isn't much of an educational school. I feel like the teachers are just shoving information at the students for them to memorize but not actually learn the stuff. If someone asked their teacher for help they would just repeat the same thing they told the class and not really help the other students. They act like they don't care if you pass or fail as long as they get their paycheck. If I had the choice before I would have picked a better school to go to.
My daughter has attending this school for the last 3 years. The teachers, classes offered and sports activities have been wonderful. I do not care for the their principle, but this year he moved on. YEAH! That is the only reason why I didn't rate them with 5 stars.
My opinion of this school is that the education in general isn't that great. (I've been to 5 high schools since freshman year and this school to me is the worse.)) A lot of the teachers are new. They don't yet have the experience they need to work with these students. A lot of the classes I took were ran by the students and the teachers just let it happen. Its not like this in all the classrooms, but about 1 out of 3 have no structure. So I personally have to say that as a student here at Atascocita I'm not very happy with what this school offers.
Atascocita High School is a new high school. Next year will be our first as a full 4 year high school with graduating seniors. We are seeking and hiring the best teachers to be found. Our principal and the house principals set a good example and motivation for the things we want at Atascocita. We truly strive for the best of the three R's rigor, relevance and relationships.
