My child is currently in the 4th grade and has attended SHE since kindergarten. Like the last two reviews getting a good teacher is luck of the draw. But that is anywhere. Teachers, Prinicipals, schools...are all blamed for the students performance. I was not happy with my child second or third grade teachers, yet she continued to make straight A's. My kid is smart, no doubt but she has initiative. She also has parents who hold her accountable. The problems that we have had with SHE can be found anywhere, kids who talk back and disrupt the class for the rest of the kids. That isn't a school problem. I have not had to deal with the prinicpal or the asst. prinicipal. I have however have had numerous conversations with the counsler and the office staff. All have been extremely helpful and polite each time.
After being here for a year, I would never send my child here. The school is disorganized and there's no accountability. Parents are told things to appease them, but nothing ever gets accomplished. Kids are taught how to pass the TAKS, not how to learn. Teacher turnover is horrible here! Some of the teachers are good, some are bad, but it's really luck of the draw, and without support from the principal, not much can be done!
I found this school to be very unorganized. I had a child in the 2nd grade and his teacher could not keep up with anything. Signed papers/ homework would remain in his backpack for days after being due. PE, Art, was always cut short because of schedules going over. I am glad my child no longer attends.
I dont understand how this school can rate so low. My son completed his Kindergarten year there nearly making honor roll except for his handwriting. And he is autistic in a normal class! The teachers I have seen are wonderful and very helpful. The staff made him feel comfortable immediately which was amazing considering he rarely warms up so quickly and they got him to the 1st grade reading and math levels before graduation. The principal has been fair, understanding and more than helpful always, she even remembers names and facts on hundreds of families! How many times do you hear a child ask to return to school? Mine wants to come here. Ratings seem misleading, anyone who visits this school can see the value building messages everywhere and the amazing leadership here. If the kids are doing well, they dont dumb them down, they send more challenging work home!
Sam Houston Ele is an awesome school where the kids are treated with respect and given every opportunity to develop into lifetime learners.
teachers are prompt to answer any inquiry re your child and always are willing to meet with you even outside of their conference time. provide tutoring time for children needing help.
The teachers my kids have had have been wonderful. I think most of them (because there are a few exceptions) really care for and love the students. I've been very pleased so far.
