Like all schools, Idalou has strengths and weaknesses. I have been very disappointed with the higher math classes, specifically Pre-Calculus. I don't feel my children are getting a proper foundation in math. The science program is adequate, but not outstanding. The students are not encouraged to submit science projects and learning is not inquiry-based. There is only one foreign language offered, Spanish. The English department is very good. The GT and AP English teacher is highly motivating and competent. Athletics is king at Idalou High School but highly selective and not all-inclusive.The art instruction is outstanding. History is taught by coaches and is rote memorization.
