Beginning of a new year and with just 3 days into the school year , UA has already started to back track on its words and promises to be fair to all children . They gave the kids a GT test end of last yr and parents of children who did not get in went complaining and crying and now they are told that there kids will also be tested . If the school admin and rules change every minute to please/carter to certain parents then its really sad . We parents need to understand that the children who got in need to see the value in their achievement and not that lets fail and get our parents to clean up the mess ... SAD ON THE MANAGEMENT TO SHOW FAVORITISM ONCE AGAIN

MY son will be in 5th grade fall 2014 and wanted to be on the swim team which is sad because I had to tell him he can not be a part of it since there is no swimming pool at this campus so the pack kids on a bus everyday for swim practice with no assigned seats so my 10 yr soon could be sitting next to a 15 or 16 yr old 9th grader. There is a huge difference between a 10 yr old boy and a 16 yr old boy or girl for that matter. This is not set up age appropriate and these facts were not given to me until I asked. Patents ask the questions because this Academy does not volunteer information.

This school is more like a daycare then a school. Education is very important to our family, so this was just not a good fit for our family. Also, not all the kids get to go on field trips, it's like a lottery so if your child gets lucky enough to get picked they are so excited but if they don't get picked they are devastated!

This UA is in Coppell, not Flower Mound, so don't be confused. We like UA. We moved our two children to UA in the fall of 2013 because they were not being challenged at their CISD elementary school (hardly any homework at all), and their school focused less on the basics (reading, writing and arithmetic) and more on technology. We love technology - we have computers at home on which the kids can practice typing, but when their spelling and writing is terrible (corrections not necessary), there is a problem. Our 5th grade daughter has A LOT of homework every night which is a challenge, but that year is the transition year. Our son in 4th grade has much less homework but is aware that next year will be different and recess. We also chose to move our daughter before talk of middle school since she won't be going there. We researched and verified with our counselor that middle school has problems with drugs, sex and girl drama (cliches, bullying, etc.) so we chose UA. We like the uniforms (removing competitiveness, clothing disagreements and they learn to dress professionally) and no makeup (she's too young) as well as UA's higher expectations and less distractions from learning.

The school is excellent for PRE K amazing Satori learning . Once we hit higher grade, we have had cancellation of PTA meeting , no replies to the email or letters . heard that kids were made to stand in class for 8 hrs due to no chairs ,missed PAID LUNCH , no experiment equipment so kids have to wait to get their turn among other admin issues . Also heard in some classes that if you go complaining the kids get the brunt of it as the kids are now scared to take a note to class as it will get them in trouble . Lot of favoritism been done to help preferred children go to field trips and then a letter goes to parents explaining it was a lottery but the kids who were selected they get a letter saying it was due to their dedication and peer approval . Right a 5 /6 yr old is able to appreciate their peer.Hopefully the school check these reviews and wake up else they will have a massive shock during re enrollment . Its the KIDS and parents who work hard with the kids at school to deliver the results it s joint effort and its not all school or teachers .. its teachers , Parents and kids in this TOGETHER. , the loser in this is the kids if they are removed which is sad .

The worst office staff I have experienced in my life....one of them stands out, if you visit the desk even once....you will know what I mean. They are rude and talk down to you, really wondering if this is healthy for a school trying to build its reputation.

I have heard pros and cons about all the charter and public schools here. Again, its all about the teachers who are responsible for the school rating. Please do not rate bad if you find some not so good teachers in the school. My daughter is in 2nd grade and just loves her teachers and friends at this school. It is very good when you compare public schools here.

I love this school. My kids have benefited immensely from its well structured academic program. This school caters to the individual needs of all students and promotes healthy competition. My kids are brilliant and operate at a higher level of reasoning and analytical thinking, thanks to all the hard work put in by the teachers and the parents. Yes, there is homework, but that is life and there's always going to be "home" work! Better start early to set some good habits in motion!

2013 year is not good in UA .My kid is going to this school from Prek .It was good previously .But now i can give 2 out of 10 rating for this 2013 year.Teachers are not good in explaining the concepts just depending on parents to teach with out explaining in school ,

There is nothing wrong with the school for fifth grade up. These grades are a stage during which children go through some pretty serious changes. Starting around this age children's brains actually prune their neurons, resulting in behaviors that didn't occur before. Parents assume any change in their child that appears negative must be the fault of the school. At the same time that parents are easing up off that their kids, assuming they are responsible enough to do things like reach into a backpack to retrieve completed homework to turn in, the expectations at school are increasing. So you have a perfect storm of reduced parental involvement, increased responsibilities, and dramatic changes in behavior that results in missing assignments, behavior problems, etc. Blaming the teachers and the school, parents withdraw their children at the natural transition after 5th grade. This results in a small middle school which cannot support the electives and special programs that a large one could, so new students are rare after 5th grade ends. Small classes are unappealing to adolescents, and student withdrawals increase through middle school as a result. It's a vicious cycle.

My daughter studied here back in 2011 (till 2nd grade) and it was good then for those grades. I'm looking to have her join back only for 5th grade (due to various reasons). I saw a previous comment about being awful for 5th grade. Can anyone share some light on what i need to look into that may be of concern?

EXCELLENT school for grades K - 4th. AWFUL for grades 5th-8th, no upper school. Similar to a college prep head-start program, if your child is not a Top 10%, student they will not accel here.

Indeed a great school!! Great curriculum which is so important for the foundation of kids. School uniform is a big plus for the discipline. Bus services, soccer club, chess club, lunch arrangements, PE, theater and other tons of plus. My daughter attends the school for last 3 yrs and my son is on his way to get there next year. I love UA coppell!!

My kids are going to this school & what I love about this school is child does not require "any" extra education support from other sources than the homework.Teachers are very cooperative and understand the needs of parents like me who believe that school is the ultimate place for education and that one does not require any extra support from other sources of education.My daughter is 2 level up than her current level; I have not done anything extra other than just asking extra practice sheets from teachers. The teachers are very very cooperative and are very supportive in every aspect. Another good thing about this school is parents queries are "being" heard and also implemented..

The school is great...good teachers, good curriculum. They have now playground, lunch facility, chess club, soccer club, art, theater, PE. what else u need?? Ideal for K-4th grade.

My daughter attended UA for several years and I thought the administration team was on a constant power struggle more of a dictatorship and not enough focus was placed on th kids. I think they have a great curriculum but no one to lead them succesfully in addition to not enough structured activites for the children.

I would like to comment on Universal Academy (Coppell Campus)- onethat is much overdue. This is a Great school! Both my nephew and my daughter attended UA-Coppell when we lived in Flower Mound (2004-2007) before we moved to Idabel, OK. Not only did they get a great education at UA but they loved going to school there. UA was instrumental for helping put M.G. where he stands now which is No. 1 in his Sophmore class. A.G. is also exceling in her 5th grade class. No, UA did not have a lot of 'bells and whistles' that you might find at a large fancy school but Ani and Miguel both learned delayed gratification and self-control. I knew that they were happy and safe at school and that I could call to check on them at any time. I can truly say that UA is a great school! Dr. Jose Gomez

i go to the school and i personally don't like it anymore after going there for 5 years there is no extra activities for the older kids like 6th and up. We also don't have any grass area to play, no cafeterias, and you have to bring your lunch everyday. So if you only want to focus on your education and no activities go to U.A.
