Being a teacher at Fred Douglass Elementary makes me very proud. I think our campus is the most caring and dedicated campus in Jacksonville. Everyone here works tirelessly to help our students become academically successful. We have made "Exemplary" status the past three years. Our school was also awarded tne National Blue Ribbon status for the year 2009-2010.

I am a teacher at this school, as well as the parent of a child that attends the school. This is a very dedicated and hard-working campus, as evident by our Recognized status this past school year. We make it a goal to make our classrooms structured and supportive learning environments. We are very energized to have a new and supportive administration. We do try to make this a welcoming environment, but the lack of parental involvement is a concern. Most our parents are blue-collar workers and lack time and resources to be involved. I am glad my child is at this school and I know she is getting a good education. We do have some behavior issues but, this is being handled. By addressing the necessary situations, this school could be exemplary.

I think they need stop concentrating on the dual language program so much when so many of the kids are struggling with english. Parents are not welcome in the school. When Iam on campus even after following their rules I am still treated as though I am a criminal. I have two children in the school and have tried to be an involved dad but never feel welcome at school.

I have a kindergartner at this school. She is in the dual-language and passport programs. She does very well and her teachers are fantastic. As far as TAKS goes, it seems like a pushed effort at this school. I have no complaints education wise. I am also a member of the 5-person PTO. The parent involvement is not that great here nor is the faculty-parent interaction. We try our best with the man-power we have. Please volunteer with the PTO at your child's school, parent involvement really makes a difference in your child's performance but the children who benefit from your contributions.

I have had children in this school for several years, and am not happy with the overall performance. Especially the principal. Isn't it strange how this is the lowest rated school taks wise in J'ville?

This school has a dual-language program to help children become bilingual. The children in this program achieve great success on TAKS. Parental involvement on this campus is an issue. The teachers do not have the parental support needed. Most of these students can be low performing and it is a challenge to bring the students to the level needed without parental involvement.

This is the lagrest elementary school in Jacksonville, and it does reflect in the individual attention the children recieve. It also shows in their tolerence of the childrens' behavior. I had both my children in this school for the 2005-2006 school year. My experience with this school has encouraged me to look into home schooling my kids next year, or moving to another school district.
