We move frequently (through multiple states) and Rylander has been by far the best school my children have attended. The teaching staff is amazing, along with their administration. One of my children has multiple learning disabilities and at other schools she was shunned by teachers and labeled a trouble maker, at Rylander she was loved, and flurished.
My experience at Rylander has been quite different from the other reviews. I volunteered there all year and saw things that really call for change. First of all, the school is overcrowded, which I understand is unavoidable at this time, but because of it's large size the school is run military style. The kids are to be seen and not heard. When I joined my son for lunch it was tough to watch kids being scolded non-stop for every little thing. The front desk staff is rude, unhelpful and I witnessed them berate children. Remember where you work and that you have an impact on these kids. Learn some patience and respect. Lastly, 15-20 minutes of recess is unacceptable, especially when you expect children to be calm and quiet all day. I've come up with a few different solutions to the playground dilemma, so there is no excuse. The one positive was my sons teacher. She was great and made the year bearable.
The school is large, but very well-run. It is also diverse which we like. Caring teachers and staff; high parent involvement. Just yesterday my husband attended "3rd grade dad's night" with our daughter (which she loved) and my son brought home info about the 2nd grade musical which he is thrilled about. Also has strong arts programs and library. My kids have benefitted from both this year.
I went to Rylander from 2005-2009, K-4th (switched to homeschooling), and was an amazing school. Most of my teachers were kind and all of them were well trained. I did very well (exculding Kindergarden) and loved it. The lunches were great. Now, like any school, it comes with some social problems and proto-cliques, but all schools do. The staff have made sure that bullying is not a problem, and were only a few unkind kids. Best school i've ever been to.
Rylander can not be beat-- right from the start it was GREAT. My daughter was in the first Kndergarten class and my son is going into 5th grade this year. All of their teachers have been wonderful and have instilled in them the love of learning.
I love Rylander it is the best when my son extra help he got it. He has come along way there and i am so proud of him. I appreciate everything and everybody at Ryalnder Elementary
This school is absolutely fantastic!! My son, in 3rd grade and my daughter in 1st grade are amazing students because the teachers and staff are fantastic at making these little minds work at top notch. We moved from AZ in 2007. The teachers, staff and friends made a difficult move, much easier. Go Rockin Rhinos!!
We moved to Cinco Ranch specifically so our son could attend kindergarten at Rylander. We were blessed with an amazing teacher, she was so creative and fun, and he couldn't wait to go to school each day! The art and music programs are outstanding. We had great parents in our class too, lots of involvement. GO RHINOS!!!
We moved here in 2005 from Florida mainly because of the wonderful schools in Katy. I have 2 children attending Rylander in grades 3 and 4 and I'm so happy with this school. The teachers are WONDERFUL, the children have access to the best learning materials and technology, the library is superb and the staff is both caring and involved. My children are always being challenged in their learning and are thrilled with their school!! GO RHINOS :-)
Both of my children have been at this school ever since it was built (in 2004) and both of them love it. The teachers couldn't be nicer to the children while very competent. The parents are very involved and there is no bullying among the children. I'd recommend that school to anybody.
My daughter has been there for three academic years and I am pleased with all aspects of the academic achievement. My only resevations are principles in relation to diversity awareness
This school has been wonderful! the teachers are very helpful. The students are very friendly. Mrs. Ziegler (the counsler) makes sure all the students ar comfortable and aren't billyed or pressured. I couldn't wish for a better school! Go Rockin' Rhinos!
We moved to Katy from Canada about 4 months ago and are very happy with the Rylander Elementary. The teachers and other staff are very friendly and supportive. They were very accomodating in getting my grade 1 and grade 3 kids caught up to the Katy ISD curriculum. Both of our kids feel welcome and have adapted well because of the supportive environment at Rylander. If you have a choice, choose Rylander!
Principal really cares about children and parents, she is an angel, and the school is simply terrific, go rhinos!
Amazing admin and teaching staff. We are so lucky to be zoned to this school! Couldn't rate it higher!
We love Rylander! My three boys go there, and I've been very impressed with the academics, parent involvement, and the teachers are great! I disagree with one post about the art, music, and PE programs being average. I just went to the 2nd grade musical...very impressive! And, Coach Roberts was named Teacher of the Year...we have a great PE program. Go Rhinos!
All three of my children attend Rylander and I could not be more pleased. They are in kindergarten, 1st and 3rd grades and they love it! Rhinos Rock!
Go Rhinos! I am not sure I understand the phonograms (I call them Monkey sounds) but the work & activities are great.
Strong Academics, music, art, P.E. program are average, Extracurricular programs are very few.
Wonderful principal and excellent school. Very clean and lots of parent involvement.
