This school is horrible considering the adminstrators. There ae some great teachers on the campus that are willing to go the extra mile. When I have been on campus, there have been too many intruptions from the principal yelling over the intercom about problems. I guess that is his was of taking care of business. I have spoken to several teachers and they also seem so upset all the time because of the climate on the campus. Think Katy is missing something here, new principal needs to be hired and this one traded in.
We moved to the Katy area in Jan. 09'. Our son was assigned to Memorial Parkway Jr High. So far, our experience has been great. The staff has been very accommodating and supporting of our son's difficulty transitioning to a new place. The teachers are excellent and offer additional tutoring before and after school. For the most part, the students are friendly and well mannered. My son has made a lot of new friends and loves his new school. Security protocols are 'strictly' enforced to provide a safe environment. There are full-time and part-time (i think) security guards on the premises. Furthermore, security cameras have been installed throughout the campus. You can feel reasonable assured your child is safe at MPJH! I hope this helps!
Great school, even better staff!!
a great school & excellent spirit!!
The people who say all the teachers care about is clothes are totally wrong. Of course they care about clothes, but sometimes you will see kids walking around with things on that teachers would usually yell at them for, yet they don't. Also, some of the older teachers really do care, but most don't. They get them in class, and push them out after the 40/45 minute period. If you were in the school, witnessing what is happening in every group of friends, every clique, every relationship, you would see why this school lacks what it does. At school, fights occur constantly (if not fist fights, very heavy verbal fights), things get destroyed or stolen, and hate and jealousy is thrown everywhere. I am so glad I will get out of this school after 9 weeks.
Memorial Parkway Junior High is small in student population and the teacher ratio is perfect. The school was remodeled inside in summer of 2007 and it is really beautiful inside. The school has really great leadership and teachers. They only need to offer more electives to the six graders. They really ned a wider base in this area. The other junior highs offer more of a selection in their electives. I think it is a wonderful school environment, almost a small town feel compared to the other junior highs in the district. Really nice.
For the parents who think the fine arts programs are 'fare' here are some words from a former student. I was in Mr. Leger's choir program and all I have to say is this man is the reason I went to school. He is a man who will stand by your child threw thick and thin and have there back the entire time. This is a man who really honestly cares deeply about his students. MPJH would be nothing without his program and if I still lived in Katy I would see to it that my daughter was taught by him because being in Mr. Leger's class is an experience that makes children into strong confident individuals. For those of you who rated the fine arts program 'fare' you must be mistaken. This program is the one redeeming factor of MPJH and that is no exaggeration.
i think they can do better
My child currently attends MPJH. I constantly have to email the teachers to communicate and many emails go unanswered.I believe that MPJH does not represent the entire district, and improvements should be considered.
I don't like this school at all. the principal is wonderful but the overall teacher ability is terrible. the discipline is way over rated and is too strict. the dress code is over enforced.
