They tell parents that they have all the means to teach kids with learning disabilities. Then when you enroll your child that is not the case. Any child with learning problems should not go to this school. There is nothing being offered for them other than having an ARD meeting. They do not let text books go home on a regular basis. They do not make the kids do homework so parents end up not knowing what is going on. They do not allow backpacks so if the kids need to bring text books home they cannot carry it all. They have no lockers so the kids have to carry all their things around all day including cold weather jackets!!!! This is hard as I said they have no lockers or allowed no backpacks or bags. They cannot change into gym shoes so my child has developed shin splints! They allow the kids who have behavior problems to get away with swearing, bullying, cheating and who knows what else. The art program my 12 year old was in they were doing things kindergarden kids do. The teachers are terrible and they seem to struggle with teaching period. Sometimes the whole class will fail tests! Terrible school.

This school is a good alternative to public schools. I am very pleased with the high school. There needs to be a few changes in the middle school, one in particular, which is a constant struggle. Overall I am very happy to have found Calvin Nehlms. If not for my one complaint I would rate this school with 5 stars. Thank you to Dr. Nehlms and to all the teachers that care and for all your hard work!!

I attended Calvin Nelms and the opportunity given to me there was the most rewarding experience I've received in my educational journey. They took the time to incorporate me into a program that was fundamentally just beginning and I had the chance to finish my high school education and graduate. I'm currently a student at Sam Houston State University working towards a Criminal Justice Degree. My overall GPA is now a 3.4. The lessons I've learned from the teachers there aren't just educational ones but ones to tackle life's problems. Calvin Nelms was one of the most rewarding and gratifying experiences I've had in my lifetime. I had a second chance with these teachers who believed in me when I felt like no one else did or even cared. My many thanks of appreciation and the hard work they put forth will not go unnoticed. Thank You. - Glen Blaha

Calvin Nelms is an awesome school! My son came out of 'normal' public school in the Cy-Fair school district. He is an honors student and always has been. He has never been in any trouble of any kind. We chose this Charter School because of the low student/teacher ratio and the opportunity for my son to work at as fast of a pace as he wanted. It has been a great experience! They do not tolerate bullying or any unacceptable behavior like that. Their goal is to provide a safe, quality environment that allows for learning at whatever level your student is at - including those like my son who are excellent students. If you are tired of the 'normal' public school atmosphere, check out Calvin Nelms for a quality education in a private school-like setting. Unlike private schools - this charter school is free!

My son went to Calvin Nelms Charter High School. The school was an exemplary school. The teachers, councilors and the rest of the staff were all willing to help when needed. They guided my son thru some tough times. We have recommended Calvin Nelms to several students that were in need of help to stay in school and graduate. I highly recommend this school to anyone that really wants to graduates, but sees no possible way of doing it. The teachers will help when the student has trouble in any subject. The teachers want the students to do their best in everything they try.
