The principal is as cold as ice to guest teachers, but the students are top notch, especially the 6th graders. The AP's are all over the school and approachable. Many of the teachers are very professional and caring, but many are anything but professional. I know that some are not even fully certified, with and abundance of teachers out there looking too. If you are going to substitute at this school, and are new at substituting, avoid the eight graders unless you insist on a challenge.
My daughter went to McMeans for 2 years and all in all she really enjoyed it! The Assistant Principals are wonderful and were always there if we had a concern. The school work was hard but not impossible and the kids were all very nice. I will say I agree with all the comments about the Principal though (I have nothing nice to say about that woman so I'll keep my mouth quiet)
I have been bullied, the teachers are severely strict, and I have been a very good student. They lack to actually have sense in themselves. Its like if they are a rulebook.
I went to McMeans all three years and loved it! I was an office aide, so I talked to the assistant principals and other officials pretty often and I must say I was disappointed how little the principal herself was involved in anything. She sorta just sits there and looks official. The assistant principals were wonderful though! Teachers are great too, except for the band dept. which I was told to leave because I missed too much school. I really don't see where there was bullying, and I wasn't exactly popular.
pretty good teachers. some nice kids. a lot of bulling. popularity is a big thing. too much useless work. big and nice school. kind of stirct. if your a new kid, hang out with 'pretty' people.
I used to be a student a McMeans and to tell you the truth...I loved that school! I'm an 8th grader now but had to move, so I no longer go there, but McMeans is a great school with the best teachers. I just have a complaint againt the principal, Dr. Rice. She isn't that involved with the school and she's not very nice. But the assistant principals are wonderful and fun.
I agree with many parents. The principal and administration seem to be too harsh on mild discipline issues. Samll infractions like forgetting a homework paper result in detention. A low grade for the first infraction is OK perhaps detention there after. It seems they care only about rules - not people.
This is the first year my son has attended McMeans and he is an 8th grader. He has had a bit of trouble fitting in and staying on task with his studies. He has found a leader and example with Mr. Paz whom he adores.
McMeans is the worst school that my son has ever attended. The bullying that he has had to endure has been so bad that we had to involved the Katy ISD police twice already. The administration has been ineffective at stopping the bullying; thus, we had to pull him out and put my son in private school. We moved from out of state and everyone told us how fabulous the Katy school district is. Not only am I highly disappointed, but I am thoroughly disgusted not only with the children's behavior, but in how the administration has handled the school violence.
this school is amazing. i learn everything i need to while having fun.
THIS school is great, the teachers are fun, humorous, and fair I love it here! I want everyone to take my advice to go to this school.... I was nervous at first but the teachers comforted me through the first days, but when it gets later on in the year, they are still fun and all but let you be treated like an adult.
As a student at McMeans for 3 years, I feel that the school puts enirely way too much pressure on it's students. Because I was very involved here, I don't have many postive things to say other than when it is talking about extra cirricular activities. Like any other school there are both good and bad teachers. The thing that makes the school have a major downfall are the people who run it, the principals. They are ridiculous. They are so hard on their students. They expect everyone to suceed with expectations that are impossibe to reach. Because the head principal once worked at 'A school', it feels like a military school when you walk through the front doors. It is extremely unreasonable when it comes displinary measures. It is unfortunate because without these people in charge or the strict rules, there is some definite potential for a good middle school.
The school is very nice. The teachers are ok. They expect way to much of the children here academically. The amount of homework is absurd. The punishments seem quite harsh and unfair, but mostly unreasonable.
McMeans Junior High is a wonderful and stable school to send your child to for a good education. The teachers are wonderful and helpful and its fine arts department and athletic program rank high in state. However, the assistant principals and some of the staff members are extremely strict. They expect too highly out of middle-school students. It seems like there is a new rule made every day. Of course, with every rule, there must also be a consequence. Usually, the consequences result in punishment for the entire grade level because one person may be messing around.
This is my second year at this school. Over all the school has done a good job attempting to achieve successfully. However, just recently this person in my grade recieved ISS (in school suspension) for something he did not do. Over all I'm pretty satisfied with this school.
Both my son and daughter attend this School and we as parents do not have any positive remarks for the school. There is a lack of leadership and direction and I do not think the School and teachers care about the students just about School'ratings'.
I have 4 Children in this School. My twins play footbal and the two younger girls are very busy in the music Department. This school is incredible, I love the principal he is So helpful.
