I think Granger is amazing!!!! What is there not to love? This school has the most dedicated teachers, staff, and principal. The teachers are the best that you can get. I have loved all of my daughter's teachers. They have been so supportive and helped her grow each year. Because they build lasting relationships, we have to get to school early every morning so she can "make the rounds" and say hi to all of them! The principal is incredible. One of the things my husband and I love about her is her support of all the activities. She is at every function on and off campus cheering the students on! The principal and teachers strive to set examples of good character traits, and it's working because Granger is the National School of Character! Granger gives students many opportunities to learn how to help out their communities through charitable events. This is just a few examples of this extraordinary school.

Kay Granger is the best school ever!, I send my kids every morning knowing the will be safe and loved. The front office has the most precious people of all. My family and I had been very blessed to belong to this school. the principal is an amazing woman that teaches them character and values!
Another wonderful year at Granger has come to a close and my children have continued to grow and flourish in character, knowledge and compassion. Thank you to the principal for not only setting the example, but hiring teachers with the same expectation. By the way my husband and I love the fact that sometimes she will share a personal snippet from her life showing the understanding she has for our situation as parents. She has consistently over the years at every Wrangler Round Up and Awards Ceremonies given credit for the success of our children by not only acknowledging the hard work the children have put forth but that by the teachers too. Granger has it all: 1. The parent volunteers in the classrooms, at performances and around the school is outstanding. 2. The teachers work hard by going above and beyond often setting the standard for the district. 3. The children care and will stand up for one another. This atmosphere was created when the school opened and continues today. It begins at the top (the Principal) and usually trickles down, but not at this school...IT FLOODS.
Our school is Wonderful, they really push parent involvement and the kids love it! Their Field Days are top notch, very fun for the kids! Also the way pick up and drop off is handled, it runs pretty smooth, once you learn all the rules of course! They do plays and the kids are so cute doing their acting! Most of the teachers are so sweet, of course there is always a few that are missing the mark. The school does run like a well oiled machine, I personally like it, it keeps most kids in check. Also they really push caring for others, and no bullying! We love our school for the Parent involvement, they push academics, the interactive learning, field day, caring teachers, and an enthusiastic principal!
The accusations reguarding the front office are quite presumptuous and lacks substantiation. At Kay Granger Elementary the front office staff strives to maintain a welcoming campus culuture. If you feel unwelome or have specifc cocerns.. Please, Please, Please address your concerns in person. Slandering names and suggesting staff lose their jobs on a website is very harsh.
How nice that you can hide behind your computer screen and voice a generalized opinion when I am sure you have not had personalized interaction with every teacher on campus. If you are having an issue with a teacher, as a parent, you need to communicate that to your child's teacher, not the online community. I know that the teachers at Granger care for and love EVERY child that walks through the doors of our school. They work harder than you can imaging to ensure that YOUR child is successful. I believe that the academic expectations, progress of our schools, and exemplary rating speak for itself. Not to mention that Granger is a state school of character, and up for National School of character. If you are angry or upset, communicate your concerns to someone who can help, not the internet.
Granger Elementary is THE BEST campus to enroll your child in. The education the teachers provide the students is top notch and far surpasses other schools that my children have been attended. The teachers there are absolutely lovely and are always bending over backwards to help my children out with their academic and social needs. They are also quick to respond to any question that I may have as a parent. Also, there are many opportunities for myself, as a parent, to volunteer at the school. Which is phenominal. Not all schools are as welcoming to their parent volunteers as this one is. Overall, I would give this school a million stars if you system would allow me to.
I Love the school, they teach good values and morals. The education is good, but parents still should work with the kids at home on anything they struggle in. Lets be real, 22 kids to 1 teacher, she is not going to give them private school teaching time, as they have a ratio of 9 kids to 1. The school overall is good, the front office staff on the other hand, is very cold and rude.
Really narcissistic principal and below average teaching capacity have squandered the potential here. Look elsewhere for quality education and any concept of public education to be smartly implemented in the best interests of students. Sad.
I love this school! The expectations for learning, behavior, responsibility, and citizenship are above and beyond any other school that I have had my children in. The teachers are highly qualified and do not lower their expectations just to let kids "pass." In doing so, the students rise to the occasion and excel! There are many opportunitites for parents to become involved in the classroom and after school activities. Although I can't volunteer during the day, getting to know the staff through PTA meetings and extracurriculur activities has really shown me how much the people this school love kids! I wouldn't want my children to attend any other school!
When we first moved to the area, we loved the school. However, we quickly discovered that one of the administrators plays favorites - among the teachers and among the parents. If you somehow get on her unfavorable side by not supporting her every decision, you're in for a very long experience at the school. My son came into the school loving art and wanting to be an artist when he grew up - two years under the oppressive art teacher took care of that dream. I once heard two dads discussing the discipline at the school and they compared it to their military boot camp - I don't think that's too far from the truth about this school. We're moving this summer, and I can't wait to be gone from this attendance zone.
As per the previous post form 4/27/2012, I'm wondering if you are talking about a specific 1st grade teacher that my child has? She does the exact same thing!!! She is horrible with the kids and treats them like they are preschoolers!!! There is no compassion or communication. She has messed up my son's confidence and morale in so many ways!!! Overall, I love this school. It's definitely a better elementary school then what I went too!!! Everyone is very friendly. I do agree that the teachers are overworked and unorganized. There is definitely a lack of communication. We've definitely been having lots of trouble with other students!!! I hope 2nd grade will be better!!!! Besides having teacher problems. The other thing that really irks me is fundraising and making money!!!! My child came home with way too many fundraising stuff, on top of pictures, on top of class stuff!! We've forked over soo much money it's ridiculous and they only take cash!!! Who has $8 bucks on them??
This school is only impressive by past TEA test scores. Some of the teachers are very un-organized and there is an extreme lack of taking responsibility for the downfalls of the teacher to the students. The principal seems more interested in best friends with the teachers instead of dealing with issues the parents are having. Also, I've overheard how one specific teacher speaks to the children and its deplorable! She smiles and puts ont the face in front of parents but I've heard what she says from the students in her class, and as I have passed in the halls. I'm not impressed by this school at all. The teachers are overworked being pulled in many departments causing them to lack in their own class. The school is not equipped to take on more students and the process of intake of new students is very poor. If I were to grade this school as a parent I would grade them a "F".
It's all about money at this school. Also, a rude teach act likes she rules the parking lot when I'm dropping off my son in the morning.
We have been at this school for 2 years and couldn't be happier. My daughter has had 2 wonderful teachers and has excelled beyond expectaions. However it make me sad to hear other have not had the best experience. Remeber the buck doesn't stop with the principle, vice principle or the front office staff. We need education to always be first.
The school is so great from drop off to the after school care they offer. The classes are smaller so the teachers can provide optimal attention to students. The school spirit is high and state mandatated test scores are some of the highest you will find. Homework and special projects encourage learning outside the classroom. Parent involvement in homework is assigned and is fun to do. This is a great area and a great school.
Maybe this school has changed since we were there. I hope so! Ms. Etheredge was friendly unless there was a concern or suggestion. The office staff was not friendly and Assistant Principal did not smile ever. The school is new and clean and well decorated, but that is about it. Most of the teachers are friendly, but some seem to be faking a smile and they all just seemed really overwhelmed and too busy to talk to you. If your child is GT they will probably do well but if they are struggling in anything they will not get the help they need. They do have awards assemblies for all the students every report card period.
I had the same experience with the assisstant principal at the beginning of this school year. I always pick up my children on time, but that Friday there was a lot of traffic and I got to the office around 3:07 p.m. I didn't think it was a big problem, because I sometimes wait in the car rider line for 15 minutes. I found one of my sons crying because the assisstan principal yelled at him. He saw me through the window and was going to greet me and she didn't like it so she yelled at him. Then in front of all the parents, staff and children at the front office, she was giving me a lesson about being on time. I was embarrasssed and dissapointed. I called the principal and told her, everything, apparently things have not changed.
At Kay Granger Elementary they are RUDE!! The front office is rude, rude, rude!! I picked up my child at 3:04 p.m. at the office (which the car rider line is usually going until past that time). When I came in my child was sitting there along with 8 other children and a few had just walked out with their parents. The assistant principal came over and just went on and on that I was over 10 minutes late and I have to pick up earlier just making a huge scene, not at all trying to be respectful or discrete. I was so embarrassed that all the children including my own was watching and that this is the kind of example set by the staff. Shame, shame, shame on this staff.
