This has been my daughter's first year at Nimitz and she loves the school. I love the fact that the teachers are working so hard with my daughter in continuing to excel. She is ahead of most (if not all) the students in her grade level and I love the fact that extra work is there for her to continue on the path we have started her on. For our entire family, Nimitz faculty and staff have been great all around.
Our son went through Nimitz and had a wonderful, positive experience. The teachers he had from 1st through 5th were absolutely the best. They caught his weak areas, worked with him and then challenged him to reach that next level. Today he is at Tivy and gives credit to the entire staff/faculty at Nimitz for his high ranking....'without my early grade school support and challenges I would not have the confidence to tackle all pre-AP classes...and succeed.' This is an exerp from a letter he sent out for a scholarship.
Nimitz has not been so great for my child. The principal is very unfriendly. As well as some of the teachers .And I have to agree they put so much stress on the kids about Taks. What about teaching, not just how to pass the Taks.
Nimitz is a great school overall. The teacher and student connection is a stong point. You know the teachers and the office care about your child simply because they know who your child is without you giving them their name.
Fabulous teachers, great administrators as well. The nurses and counselors are so gentle and sweet too :) We have to move to a new school district and will miss this school dearly. They made my children comfortable and made them feel special and accepted as they are. Thanks Nimitz!
Great school, caring teachers!
I have two daughters who attended Nimitz Elementary this past year. Their TAKS scores were great, but I found that the curriculum tended to 'teach the test' more so than spending time focusing on an all-around education. I would like to see Nimitz start teaching more 'how and why' methods of learning, rather than just teaching 'this is the only way it can be done', as students tend to learn in many different ways, and if a child can discover the method that works best for them in the process, all test scores should be commendable. I did find my daughters' teachers to be very knowledgeable, helpful and caring in the manner in which they taught them this year, but would like to see the curriculum changed to reflect different learning styles.
Nimitz is a first rate school. We have a staff that really cares. The school is very well taken care of. At Nimitz all children reach higher levels of learning. Parent support is above any that I have ever seen. There is great leadership at Nimitz.
