I'm a former student of KHS, and I would not recommend enrolling your child in this district. I was a decorated athlete, participant in extracurricular activities such as Art, NHS and Drama, and graduated in the top ten of my class. It's not that I have a grudge against the school, but teacher apathy is overwhelming, emphasis is placed on football, and there is no participation in UIL Academics. Discipline is also extremly bias according to socical standing withn the town and school. As the old superintendent, Jerry Roberts, has retired, changes may happen under the guidance of Jody Clements. But just from a recent graduate, I would never think of enrolling my kids in this school. Academically, I learned our of my own will in high school because all I learned at KHS were social skills.

Not a great school at all. Many of the teachers are coaches, which isn't always a bad thing as some of them are great teachers. Unfortunately, many of them are not and don't teach at all and just hand the class assignments out of the book. Decent extracurricular activities. The Safety/Discipline system is much more corrupt than it should be, often causing many students to get into trouble for things they have not even done. There is almost no parental involvement to speak of, either, which is a shame.

I was so not ready for college. I had to take almost all the remedial classes that Kilgore College offered, as did most of my classmates. Most classes were goof-off classes. Everything is for the football team & football games. If you were one of the lucky ones and got into the GT or Honors classes, you may have had a shot at learning something. But if you were just a regular student, you were held back by the ones that didn't do their work or didn't even want to be there. I did make alot of friends in the extracurricular things i did and had a blast doing them.

Extracurricular is low in variety and academics lack in ways to prep for college.
