Our son has attended LHMS for all three of his middle school years and we love it. The demographics are culturally diverse enough that the kids don't gang up on eachother, the academics are excellent - the teachers truly care about the kids and their learning and well being, and the band and drama depts. are the best in the area - the band director is great with the kids and really teaches them a lot, and the Theatre Arts teacher loves the kids and gets them so involved in every aspect of the arts - she even takes them to a Broadway show in Austin every year! We will miss LHMS when our son graduates and moves on to high school. If you're considering where to live when you move to Killeen or buying a house here, check out the neighborhood of LHMS.
I think the new principal is to self absorbed and only care about being the best not the kids!
Good school, I like how they seperate each grade level. The only problem is there is not enough supervision during PE.
I've had two daughters to attend and graduate from liberty hill middle school. The athletics team is great but i was a little disappointed in the way the teachers contact you and setup for conferences. I like to talk one on one with all my childs teachers not just one with a report from all the others.
I would have to say that this is a good school but not a great school. As in most schools in the killeen school district social values aren't taught well and everything is mostly about getting students to pass the TAKS tests. MORs (minor offense reports) are handed out like they are candy at this school. If the student gets so many they will get an ISS or Saturday Detention at a different school. The student gets these offense reports even if it is no fault of their own...like if a parent drives them to school late. I just wish they would pay more attention to their students rather than everything being about test scores.
Teachers have educational qualification, however, lack common sense and good judgement in dealing with students discipline and punishment. Seems that Teacher's lack common sense and feel that they are superior to the parents. Teachers seem to need sensitivity training. What parents convey does not get a positive response. Attitude seems to be that whatever the Teacher/Adminstration decides is a done deal, regardless of what the parent or community wants. Seems to stem from the typical KISD attitude as a whole.
