I would like to say good things about this school but unfortunately that can not happen. We recently moved to the area from out of state and the district we came from was rated very low in the nation so we had high hopes for KISD but to no avail. My family recently had a personal situation that required us to leave town for 3 days. I gave the school notice and excused both of my daughters per the policy. When we returned they served us with papers and are prosecuting my child for skipping school. When I tried to communicate to the principal I was threatened. The curriculum offered is out dated and the education level is in my opinion below standard. Please, if you have a choice do not choose this school.

I am a 2002 graduate of Kountze HS, and student at K.I.S.D. my entire academic career. I have several qualms about quality of education at KHS. First, the quality of teachers. While there are several high quality teachers, for every one there is at least two giving subpar performance in the classroom. My younger brother, a freshman, recently informed me that 'the health teacher passes out a work sheet, once we finish, we do nothing the rest of class.' Another problem is that many electives offered are obsolete and focus more on trade skills in agriculture and the like than anything else. Many students graduating from this mostly low-income school district are ill-equipped with necessary work skills pertaining to most of today's fastest growing fields. Not to mention problems I faced being poorly prepared for college due to low focus on grammar and composition skills. This school needs a wakeup call.
