Great school and dedicated teachers.
We are new in the Bay Area Charter schools. 2 in high school and one in middle school. We felt very welcomed coming in and I pray that this school works out for our teens. I do feel like there are some teachers/administrators there that really care.
2006-2007 Our first year of High School. My daughter has attended the Bay Area Charter schools since 3rd grade. She did very well this year and actually has respect for the teachers. The Science course was difficult and the teacher is excellent. She kept me informed of my child's progress and difficulties. The High School's classes are small and if a student is trying to do their best, I feel the instructors go out of their way to help the students. We appreciate the fact that our students are helped to not only graduate but are encouraged to go on to further their education.
Very nice school, low total student population.
My daughter is starting her second year at Ed White. Since she transfered from Clear Creek her barley passing B-D grades have all went to A-B's, she wanted to take a summer class to help her graduate early, not forcebly talked into in order to get the grade. The most important reason she is happy and she is actually learning information that she shares with me.
Dr. Roz is a very fair, caring principal and I commend her for the changes she has made in her short time at Ed White. Her job is certainly not an easy one. Most likely my son would have dropped out had he continued his enrollment at Clear Creek, where the student is ' just a number'. Ed White kept me informed on an almost daily basis, making it easier to steer him in the right direction. He graduated on time and I am very proud of him, and thank the principal and staff for all their help.
I am the principal of Ed White Memorial High School, and feel I must respond to the extremely negative comments submitted in March. We are a dropout prevention/dropout recovery school and seek to have academically and socially successful students. Our students have reached high school and are faced with the barriers of exit exams to acheive a diploma. Our teachers are tireless in their efforts to help students learn what they missed and to acquire the needed credits to graduate. When I must say 'No' or deliver an unpopular answer to a request, someone is likely to get angery. I think the poor review came from an unhappy individual. My students are not as characterized by that person. They are typical students who sometimes make poor choices.
I have a son who has attended this school for 2 years. He suffers from severe dyslexia and depression. He was sinking in the sea of Clear Creek High School with thousands of students. Ed White has given him an environment to succeed. While there are probably no Yale scholars at Ed White, it is a great, safe and encouraging environment for kids like mine that need a second chance environment. Dr. Roz is a tough but fair administrator and in the year she has led the school she has improved the school significantly.
This shouldn't be a school. Its a haven for delinquents. The students are allowed to smoke whatever they choose on campus. The teachers curse at the kids. There are kids running rampant all day in and out. the administrators are constantly losing pertinent student data such as credits.
