This high school is very good for academics as it is an International Baccalaureate School. The biggest problem with the school is the Men's Coaches. To have coaches who frown on athletes being in other programs is outrageous!! To expect the athletes put in 40 hours a week in the sport they are participating in is even more ridiculous. Especially when how low of a percentage chance of making it to college in that sport, let alone receive a scholarship. And those that have received scholarships, it has mostly been to Division III schools and not Division I. Also the men's coaches could take a lesson from the women's coaches, especially the softball team on how to almost win state and build true team cohesiveness, and not division within the players on a team. And this really isn't aimed at all of the Men's coaches, just a few, who need to learn that the program whether it is Baseball or Basketball, it isn't about the coach and his program, but about the players who come with real heart to really try and play a game and when they do, they are put on the bench, because they are in some other activity such as Band or a different sport or another activity in school!!!
My son is a senior at LHS in the IB program. He will graduate this year in the top 10% of his class and was recently accepted into Rice Univ. I attribute his success to the great teachers at LHS and the support and devotion they demonstrate each day. My son has benefited academically, however I must say that it is much more than that. The school has alot of tradition, great student-led organization and tons of groups/clubs for teenagers to be involved in. I have never heard him come home with a negative comment about the staff, teachers or administrators. Thank you LHS for all you've done!!
PHENOMENAL TEACHERS! I can not stress that enough! The counselors have been attentive to special needs, administrators have taken appropriate action, and my teenager loves it here. The IB/AP curriculum is challenging and engaging. Unfortunately the chain isn't completely free of weak links. We did encounter a Geometry teacher who was less than enthusiastic and particularly unapproachable. However, she is offset by countless other teachers who obviously care about each student and help ensure their success. I feel Leander High School is doing an outstanding job of preparing my teenager for continued academic success beyond high school.
Fantastic school with selfless teachers and coaches. I am part of the band and don't know what I would do without it. The director is great and the friendships we form are irreplaceable.
The teachers care so much about the students and the students flourish. Team work makes all the difference.
Great school. Great administrator and great teaching staff. We could not be more pleased. Makes Vista Ridge look like a nursery school.
My son has at LHS one year and I am very pleased with the school over all. The teachers always respond emails and are always available to talk to. The IB program is very well organized and the counselors do a great job on each grade. I am very pleased with sports and extracurricular activities. The Coaches motivate the kids to do well and get good grades. Bad grades and you are out of the sport you are involved. The parent support and involment is very good, it's a big great pride.
LHS is a great high school. I have no complaints. My oldest daughter graduated there last year, and has gone off to college. Another daughter is there now. There are some wonderful teachers there and the principal does his job very well.
This school may have it's problems and yes the cliques you hear about, don't let the small stuff scare you into moving somewhere else. The schools great. Great programs. Great athletics.
At LHS there are poor teachers, and very good ones, it all depends on who you get. There are plenty of train for work programs, including certification for electrical, and cosmitology while still in HS. Leander also has the IB program, and offers AP classes. However these seem to be a bit disorganized. It is a large school, so don't expect to much personal attention, but if your child is very slef motivated then there will be no problem. Also the sports programs are very strong(it is Texas!)
I think Leander is a good school, but the counselors need to interact more with students. AP's need to be more strict with discipline rather than attendance. Even though the attendance was down since last year, it's not something to go that far about. keep students under control who are in school.
I personally think that Leander can be a really good school, and has been in the past. Leander ISD in general is a really good school district. However, the administrators and principals need to know how to correctly deal with students. I think the discipline issues are present at Leander High School more the other two high schools in the district. I am pleased, however, with the number of electives the students are offered, as well as the teachers' involvement with the students.
I think Leander High is awesome! The teachers and the students are all great!
i dont think this school is that good i think that you have a better chance to home school your kid the teachers will talk about your kids grades to every one in your class.
My daughter is in her second year at LHS and she is thriving. She has had some exceptional teachers that have truly cared about student performance and we all love the positive school spirit.
Leander High School proves that you can have a school with a friendly environment, unique and challenging classes, and very positive faculty. Like everything else, Leander High is not perfect. You'll find your 'clicks' and groups, but you can find that anywhere. Every student can honestly say that their teachers care enough to help you. They'll give extra credit, and try their best to make their students excell. At Leander High, everyone fits in somewhere because of the high number of students. You can't compare with LHS's traditions and school spirit. All in all, LHS is the school to send your child.
My children have attended schools in 3 different states and this one is the best. Leander schools are wonderful. They made all the difference for one of our children that came here failing and ready to quit school. Because of all the support and concern for her, she excelled here and we are happy to say that she not only made up all her missed credits, but graduated on time with all her peers. We have one more going through the system now and she is an excellent student and loves going to school here. We were all happy with the move and what the district has to offer.
I think most teachers at LHS are positive and truely care about the students however, there are some who are there just because they need a job. These teachers need to be dismisssed and replaced with people who will teach our kids correctly and hopefully make the class informative and fun. I have not had any success with any of the guidance counselors though. When my daughter, now 24 was in LHS she received no help from the counselor. I now have a 17, Junior in LHS and I haven't seen any difference in the amount of help or interest as before. It took my husband and I 3 trips to his office before receiving any help. My daughter had been in to see him 4 times with nothing happening. This is unacceptable! We have got to have people in this position that want to help and get involved.
To all who really care and consider the views of the student body, I would like to announce that I think this school is great. I rated it as perfect because I have expierienced several school districts within my lifetime and I believe that this school is excellent. It teaches many languages, including Latin (my favorite class); It also offers several advanced and challenging courses that is benificial for the student mind. Look at all the electives offered! Anyone can find some extracuricular activity that so suits them!
LHS is a great school. It's a very positive and happy enviroment. I truly believe the teachers are a very caring staff. The students seem to be very happy. It is a great learning enviroment. The dance team is awesome!
