We are zoned to this school, but haven't had a great experience at Whitestone. The art and music teachers are EXCELLENT (which is important), however, the school is weak in science. I've tried to address concerns with the office but have gotten very little support from the Principal. The PTA is average.
Whitestone is an amazing school the teaching staff go above a beyond. We moved from CA in August 2012 where we lived for 1 year, previous to that 4 years in CT. My son was diagnosed with ADHD just before leaving CA, we were desperate at this stage as he had recessed academically during that year, due to lack of resourses in what can only be described as a terrible school system. Since being at Whitestone the difference is amazing, I can not believe what they have managed to achieve in such a sort space of time. I am updated on his process regularly & if he is struggling they come up with extra resoucses to get him through. This school has changed our lives, we have a little boy who loves to go to school again & has found his confidence.
Whitestone has been a fantastic school for my children. I have a son who is dyslexic. The school diagnosed him in the 1st grade. The fact that they were able to catch this so early and begin him in a program shows how fabulous and in tune the teachers and staff are to the needs of their student. He has been in a dyslexic program that is just amazing and is making tremendous progress. The principal knows the children by name and is warm and encouraging to the parents and teachers. I am really happy with this school.
This year has been wonderful for both my kids. The teachers have been great! I love the communication that I have with my second and first grade teachers. My kids are happy and that makes all the difference!
Amazing teachers and staff who makes each child feel special. Their dedication makes Whitestone feel very personal and creates a great environment for children to thrive.
It is a nuturing school that provides for children who need o be challenged as well as those that need additional help. No matter what the situation all children feel special and all needs are addressed in a professional and caring way.
My son has been a student at Whitestone since third grade and we love it! :)
I completed my student teaching semester at this wonderful school during the fall of 2008. My first grade bilingual (Spanish) cooperating teacher/mentor was exceptional. I participated in many 1st grade teacher team meetings and liked how they worked together in coordinating and organizing lessons. The teachers at every grade level take pride in this type of professional harmony. I was also particularly impressed by the assistant principal s active involvement in monitoring daily activities as well as conducting teacher evaluations. She is now the principal and commands a great educational environment. I would most definitely love to teach at this great school.
It has a very caring staff, dedicated to make kids learn, feel safe and happy.
My son has been here 3 years, entering his 4th and final year. We have been very happy with his teachers and the admin. of the school. The PTA is also great. We love it.
As my son has only participated in the Ealry Learning Environment at Whitestone, I cannot speak for all grades and teachers. However, the ELE teacher at Whitestone is absolutely the best in Leander district! Thier early childhood program is amazing and has made a tremendous difference for my son. The speech, OT, and Physical Therapy staff are also fantastic.
I am thrilled with Whitestone. As a former educator, there are certainly teachers that I like more than others...as with all schools. The principal is amazing. She is welcoming and encourages both students and staff. The PTA is super involved and is accepting to whatever any volunteer is willing to give. The kids are safe and happy. There are many programs to support and enrich all abilities. It is a wonderful, down to earth environment. I'm so glad that I didn't let the school rating sway me from moving to this beautiful area in Leander. As it turns out Whitestone is Recognized this year. It's only a matter of time before we become exemplary!
I had a Kindergartener at Whitestone last year and felt that, while her teacher was wonderful, the administration fell short. I was particularly concerned with safety. The playground fence was knocked down half of the school year, the visitor check-in procedure was weak, they would send kids around the school un-supervised and without a 'buddy', and things just seemed very disorganized.
Two of my three boys attend Whitestone Elementary. My experience has been great thus far. Moving from out of State, I expected my children to have problems adapting at first. I have found great support on their teachers. Although, I am unable to volunteer due to my work schedule, I am in constant contact with teachers about my boys' progress. The most valuable thing for me as a mother, is to know my children enjoy going to school. My job at home is to further develop their learning and keep their curiosity alive. I am truly happy to have chosen Whitestone Elementary for my boys, and look forward integrating my youngest this coming year.
I have a lot of questions regarding the safety of children at the school. There isn't as much parent involvement as the school which we moved from, but everyone is very friendly.
Every year...Whitestone gets better! I am glad that my son has 3 1/2 years left.
We love Whitestone. We are so excited that the new school year is beginning! The principal always has time for everyone. The teachers are wonderful. Every year is exciting for our family. Bravo! GO Wildcats!
I pulled my child from this school due to unfair treatment and lack of discipline. Teachers turn the cheek to cussing and inapropriate behavior. Out of 3 teachers I had one very good one. However I would like to see more discipline in place and children should be accountable for bad or inapropriate behavior. I have seen a lack of this with this particular school. I know of several other parents who have also pulled their kids due to similar circumstances. There is now a new Pricipal and new Asst Principal so things may have improved.
I have 2 kids enrolled and they absolutely love the teachers and most of all, they enjoy their time at school. For them, its not a drag because the teachers and the environment make it fun to learn. I would recommend this school to anyone in the LISD area that is thinking about moving there child to this school.
