Founders Classical is a College Preparatory school, it's open to all but it's not for all. Our children have done exceptionally well this past year but they came from another prep school and they're used to a challenging curriculum. Those who come from public schools will struggle but they certainly will have every opportunity to rise to the challenge offered them at each grade level. Our dearest friends attend here and they came from LISD and while they did struggle they managed A/B's but many who come from public criticize and that's a shame. We love the school, the Headmaster, the Teachers, Coaches and Administrators! What a gift Founders Prep is!!!!

Founders is a great school however it was not the best for us. My daughter was always an A/B student and came here and had several C's. What they expect out of kids is crazy. We had homework at least 1 -2 hours every night (Monday - Thursday). Weekend projects were thrown at us last minute. Then when I knew my child needed tutoring and I asked several times of when it was, I was ignored until it was too late. Parking is absolutely HORRIBLE! Then be prepared to make your child's lunch every day. My child was bullied quite a bit and nothing was done.

What a gold mine! This will be our third year of enrollment at Founders Classical Academy and are ecstatic about the classical education that our children have received. The staff is the best around and are on purpose about teaching and caring for the students. What an incredible asset to the neighborhood and a shining example of what education should look like.

This school was the best thing we could have possibly done for our children's education (including putting them in private school). I grew up with a classical education, and I cannot begin to tell you the difference between what a classical curriculum can give your child and what is taught in public schools. As a prior review mentioned, Founders is academically rigorous and much is expected from these young people, but isn't that what we want for our children? We felt so strongly confident in this school and its curriculum after sending our 14-year-old there, we took our other two children out of their schools and enrolled them in Founders (and we live in a school district which holds an "Exemplary" rating from Texas). The wait list is large now, but it's worth the wait! If you want your children to lead a more meaningful, fuller life because of knowledge and virtue, this is the school for you.

We could not be happier with the education our 7th grade daughter is receiving at FCA. The curriculum is both rigorous and relevent. The students definitley receive a classical education with latin and rhetoric. It is amazing to me how much our daughter has learned in the 2 years she has attended FCA! The teachers are dedicated, well trained, and knowledgeable. Extra tutoring is offered and encouraged when needed. There is great balance of character training, academic training, and the arts! There is a large parent involvement population. There is a feel somewhat of a private school education but with high educational goals, parent invovlement, good balance of discipline, and a tremendously qualified and dedicated leadership team and teaching staff. We HIGHLY recommend FCA to your family. If you desire a tremendous education coupled with all the plus factors of a good charter/public school, this is the school for you and your family! You wont regret your decision.

My sixth grade son is thriving here. He recently stated, "I've learned ten times more SO FAR this year (end of October) than during ALL of fifth grade" (at a different, also excellent school.) He enjoys discussing what is being covered in class. Sixth grade (and I believe all upper grades) have a 30-minute study hall, so he generally comes home with very little (under thirty minutes) of homework (he's very fast and efficient with it). And the work is interesting. They also have a plethora of extracurricular activities. The Headmaster, teachers, and other staff are excellent. The PTO is fantastic. It's not uncommon to have one or two kids in a family enrolled and one or two on the waiting list, but it's worth the wait and not at all uncommon for kids to start mid-year. (Siblings of current students have priority on the waiting list.)

The curriculum is challenging, but I would expect that from a classical education. The emphasis on 'virtue', morals, ethics and honor code is outstanding. The Headmaster is all you would expect and more, his 'commitment-to-excellence' spills over to the compassionate teachers & staff who combine it with powerfully rich academia compatible with the Christian view of the world. It s truly a preparatory school at it s finest!! Most importantly, our children love (love) attending this school, we are very blessed!!

This is a very diverse student body and we have been very impressed with Classical Education as a whole compared to Progressive Education currently being taught in our public school system. We believe this is the best opportunity for our daughter to excel academically and highly recommend any parent who is apprehensive about the current condition of our public school system to check out this campus.

Our family is so blessed to be a part of Founder's Classical Academy. The advanced curriculum is tough but is conveyed in terms the youngest minds can grasp. The faculty and staff are simply wonderful. We are fortunate to have enrolled our children as kindergarteners and we intend to continue at Founder's through graduation!

I love the way the headmaster stands out in the parking lot each morning to greet parents and students and then is the last one to enter the building. I love the way the principal will hug a child and bandage their wounded knee. I love that Founder's has a Christmas program and not a holiday program. I love that both of my kindergarteners are reading at levels I never dreamed and that my 6 year-old knows the basics of fractions. I love that the teachers are kind, dedicated and professional. In short, I love Founder's and am delighted that my children are a part of such a great school. Yes, the curriculum is tough and discipline is strict. Since when did this become a bad thing? I couldn't be more proud of our school.

Founders is an awesome school. I dont understand the people in previous comments complaining about the staf, teachers and staff. Everyone there is very involved and do there very best. I love classical education. Would never put my child in public school. Yes its there first year and they have some things to figure out but thats to be expected. I love the school and love the teachers. They are awesome:)

I wanted to wait a full school year before I made any decisions regarding my opinion about this school. My husband and I decided to take a chance with this new school because we felt our children would have an opportunity to study a more advanced curriculum in a smaller school environment . We were looking for more emphasis on virtue, leadership, and knowledge. We have not been disappointed! The administration and faculty have done an outstanding job this first year. They continue to go above and beyond and I appreciate their dedication. I work at a top rated school for a local district and had reservations about making this move for our children. Our children have thrived on this new campus and we have been pleased. I will stress to any new families that your children should have strong academic knowledge and study skills going into this program, as it is not for everyone. I have found this school to be assertive with addressing any discipline issues with the students, as character and virtue are equally important to the knowledge they gain.

Great concept and very good, dedicated teachers. Yes, the curriculum is rigorous and the homework level is intense, but that is to be expected at a college prep school. However, the number of discipline issues at this school is the real problem. Theft, vandalism, fights and bullying run rampant through this school and the administration is out of touch and refuses to deal with any issues. It is no wonder so many people won't be returning next year. Changes are needed if this school is ever to reach it's potential.

Both my boys entered the school in the middle of the year and are adjusting great. We came from a private classical school so the transition was not that hard. Neither of my middle school boys have 2 hours of homework a day. Actually they have less work here than at the private school they were attending. I would not say my boys are gifted and talented but they are use to working hard and have been taught good study skills. My only complaint is sometimes the communication between teachers and parents could be improved. Both my boys are very happy here and it is the closest thing to a private school without paying tuition.

Founders is a wonderful school with very caring personnel, administration and teachers. I disagree with the previous comment slamming the headmaster..I have found him to be very engaging and caring. The principal leads the school in a loving and kind manner, we adore her! My son has always been a straight A student and transferred to Founders from a private school this year. He is a very bright kid and has always excelled at the top of his class; he loves to learn! This is the same at Founders and he is excelling, but this has been a tough transition. He attended a school with a rigorous curriculum before, but the homework was not near as intense and extensive. The estimated 10 min per grade level per night is a complete misnomer. Mine works diligently and doesn't mess around and get distracted..yet his average homework load is more than 2 hours on an average night for elementary. Assigned reading is 30-45 min.. remaining time is spent on assignments, latin, math, and studying for quizzes & exams. This school is definitely not for every kid. There is not sufficient time for downtime at night. I hope they can strike more of a balance in the future as we do love the school.

If you are a Vista family this is NOT a Vista school do not expect it to be like all the Vista Academys. Our kids were at this location last year when it was Vista and all the familys were told everything was going to be the same except the name will change and that the school will now go thru highschool. It is completley different. Very stressful for the kids and parents. There was a turnover at the beginning of the year with all the changes and there will be a large turnover of kids and teachers that will not be returning after the summer. If you child works well in a very hard demanding stressful class then great. If your child is used to the Visa environment this is not for you.

Founders has been a great fit for our family. The teachers are caring, education exceptional and virtue is taught and modeled throughout its halls. The Head Master has open lines of communication and meets with parents on a regular basis. With any new school, there are growing pains. Part of what has impressed me with Founders is the administration's ability to recognize and act when an aspect of the curriculum or schedule needs to be revisited and or changed in order to improve. Founders teaches kids to think critically, not just regurgitate facts.

My childrens' (3) experience at Founders has been excellent. It has been challenging, in a good way, the teachers are passionate and very knowledgeable, the front office personnel are friendly and attentive, and the admin are definitely of the highest quality. Mr. Caros, the headmaster, is obviously in his element in a classical school. He communicates the classical school vision often and clearly, he leads by example and even teaches a class (1 of my children is in his class), he is friendly and approachable to both children and parents, and he is a good judge of educators - I am amazed at the teachers and other adults who work at the school. The best thing about Founders is the knowledge and skills the students are gaining and the focus on virtue and citizenship. I have to disagree with two points from other parents. The first reviewer seems to have an axe to grind. Easy to ignore. One of the other parents said the school isn't for all children. I'm not sure. I guess if a child comes in really behind I can see where it would be difficult to keep up at a challenging school. Otherwise, why shouldn't every child have the chance at such an excellent education?

We were with Vista Academy prior to the conversion to Founders Classical Academy and yes, there were some hiccups in the transition, which were to be expected. Over the first half of this year I have found the teachers and the paraprofessional staff and administration to be superb. I believe that in anything we get out what we put in. If a parent puts in negativity and complaining then that is all they will get out. I choose to invest my time and talent into this school as a volunteer and have more opportunity to see both positives and negatives and find that the positives far outweigh any negatives. Founders Classical is designed for bright and dedicated students who are willing to put for the effort to learn and achieve in an environment designed to make them capable and responsible leaders within their community. Neither my elementary student or my middle school student have two hours of homework a night. Both are A students and still have plenty of time for downtime, extracurricular activities, sports and hobbies. This environment is rigid. There is less free dress and more structure than at Vista, Quest or iSchool High. It's a good fit for us. Not ideal for all.
