Most of the projects chosen in the gifted class revolve around science and social studies. The class allows the student to pusrue topics in their academic strength or passion. In most cases, what results is an integrated project that covers multiple disceplines.

The academic programs are adequate, but not if you have a gifted child in anything but math or reading. No science or history gifted programs. Discipline is ISS and then if the child doesn't adjust then a discipline management center (LDMC). The social programs are good and well chaperoned.

The extracurricular academic programs at Lockhart Junior High school are wonderful. Their UIL academic teams (6-8) have consistently done very well in their district competition for several years. Last year the teams swept district. All three grade levels perform above the state average on TAKS tests. Teachers are challenging and have a genuine concern for the well being of the students. The school offers choir, band, drama, art, cross country, volleyball, basketball, track, football, tennis, and golf programs. Students are encouraged to get involved in at least one extracurricular activity. The parents of the students are involved in daily activities in the school such as helping during picture days, in the concession stand, and volunteering to help individual teachers. While more parents are always needed for the countless needs on any campus LJH has a core group who work tirelessly for both staff and student.
