Alderson is an excellent middle school. Besides winning the Elmer Watson Award in 2007 they had some of the top scores in the district in writing and social studies for the past two years. Parental involvment is at an all time high and it is only going to continue to rise. The neighborhood is not perfect, but what neighborhood is? They have made double digit gains in the areas of science and math and they are rated acceptable this year. Please don't judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes. The teachers are some of the BEST in the district and we love our students! Most of them have faced adversities that would make some adults cringe, and yet they come to school and get the work done. Alderson will FOREVER be a TEN in my heart!
This school is exttodinary. The staff and administation are woderful. My children love this school. They have had to overcome a lot and are only going up.
I don't know who wrote the other reviews, or when they were written, but they clearly have not visited Alderson in quite a while. The administration is experienced and well respected by the staff and the district. The teachers here are near the district average in teaching experience and some of the best in Lubbock at the midde school level. Alderson was given the Elmer Watson Award for Outstanding Middle Schools in 2007, one of just a few schools in the state to be recognized with the award. While there are obstacles to overcome at Alderson, the staff and administration have made strides in raising test scores (no longer at the bottom of the district), increasing community involvement and closing the achievement gap.
Just a bad school...bad neighborhood, brand new teachers, inexperienced administrators. Nobody there seems to care. If you do, find another school for your child.
Easily the worst middle school in Lubbock, mostly because of horribly inexperienced administration, and secondly because the majority of the teachers there are either riding out until retirement or are fresh out of undergraduate school and this was the only gig they could snare. Avoid.
Poor administration, bad neighborhood, average to good teachers.
