LMS is, in my opinion a great school. They do have several problems which I think they should address to avoid problems in the future. The overcrowding needs immediate attention. There are way too many kids with not enough supervision. Each grade has at least 400 students, and the student to teacher ratio is very low. They have broken up the grades so that each grade stays with their grade. It's like a seperate school per grade level. they cant have anything to do with the grade they are not in. If they don't already have them, they should get cameras in each classroom. Academics are great and LMS is held with high standards.
Lufkin Middle School does have way to many kids, and if the Texas Board of Education really cared about the kids and their education they would do something about it. LISD should have left the grade levels the way they used to be. Each student could get the attention and dissapline they needed and they would not have to worry so much about something bad happeneing. But Lufkin is only LISD is only worried about 3 things , football, money and populartity.
Middle school is soooo huge , it is like a mall at Christmas time. Over crowded is an understatement. My Son loves his school but there are bullies by the dozen. There is no way that anyone could keep up with all the kids. I wish we had never moved here.
GEAR UP program is excellent
Lufkin Middle School has a student population that is too large to manage. There is over 500 students per grade level. Although the Principals and teachers try hard to keep discipline, the population is just too much to handle. In a town of this size there needs to be at least two middle schools. The school has a definate institutional feel.
