It's a typical small town school. Academically it is not strong, but it will provide a decent education. Your child will do better if you as a parent are involved and suplement their education, or they'll get lazy here. The community is very involved when it comes to sports, particulary football, but other than that, the kids are pretty much on their own. They are not pushed to succeed academically. Most of the teachers appear to be knowledgeable and suprisingly open for a small town school, but I don't think they get the needed support from administration or the parents. There is a pervasiveness of narrow mindedness in the town, and inflexibility towards change, even if it is for the better.
Lytle High School is a great school. It's in a small community, which is very caring about the youth & athletics. The academic programs are wonderful. They are very strong in UIL competitions, in particular Speech, Spelling, Debate & Drama. I have a particular fondness for the Math, Chemistry, English, Journalism, and Spanish teachers at Lytle High. They were all very encouraging and helpful to my child while she attended Lytle High. They have a strong band & football is attended with passion. I feel they could & should have stronger art programs. I feel they lack in this area however, the US is getting more & more away from art. Save the Arts! Parents are very involved with most of the kids activities here at Lytle High. Since, it is a small community they have a hand in what goes on. The PTA is active. Go Pirates!
