Mabank High School

We have raised 2 nephews in the Mabank School system and we are now supporting a nephew and a neice in the system. My husband went to Mabank and we have nothing but praises for the school district. We have several other neices and nephews that have gone through the system and we are proud of the adults that they have turned out to be.

Almost all of my children have attended MISD. I have one son that is Dyslexic. He very early on was labled as lazy and a behavior problem. -I have struggled with the school system. I have had a lot of luck with most of the teachers but the administration at the Highschool has been the worst. They try so hard to control every aspect of their day, a child such as mine does not follow along well with their program. They are fostering sheep. No individuality is allowed. They are constantly trying to get him to quit and get his GED. They seem to be very number oriented. Kids have to meet a certain mold. Football, band, scholar etc.. If they don't; they want them out. Maybe that's how they keep the excellent rating. They weed out the individals. I wish home school was an option for us.

I was an exchange student 2004/2005 still in the old High School and I loved it! The teachers were great and the classes always interesting! *great school*

My child attended MBHS grades 9-12. This year students will enjoy a completely new campus managed by a fairly new administration. The principal was 'Principal of the Year' for the Region (2007). Test scores have risen, the quality of teachers has improved, students are disciplined, and the environment is healthy. But, like all Texas schools, they teach to the test (TAKS). There is a wide variety of extracurricular activities, something for every student. Participation level above the Sophomore level tends to be very clickish. What you can expect for your child is a well rounded and stable school experience coupled with a small Texas town (getting bigger) environment.

The only classes I learned anything whatsoever from were my AP classes. Yet those classes were for the most part, excellent. The school seemed to be too focused on its extracuricular assets (football, band. . .). I graduated in 2003, and since, the administration has seen a complete turn over. So who knows, maybe things have changed for the better. Although, I have heard that since, students are not allowed to bring same sex dates to the prom, which I'm pretty sure is illegal. And by my moral standards, very wrong. I've always held mixed feelings for my hometown.

I graduated from Mabank High school just a few years ago. Since then I have been to college and worked for other educational programs and ISDs. I was very prepared for college and was actually able to CLEP certain classes because I had been taught the material already in high school. I love the small town atmosphere and the individual attention each student gets from teachers and administration. When my kids get in school I would love for them to go to Mabank and have the same opportunities that a big city school offers, in a safer environment.

Of all the schools my son has attended this is one of the worst. The new principle is not family oriented. You can't get anywhere in the chain of command because they all back each other whether they know the correct answer. Small town politics and your child will be lost in this school for sure. Mine has been and now I know why so many people home-school their kids in this town. Don't believe that a small town school is better this one for sure doesn't have my child's best interest. My other two children are not in school yet and will never be in the public system no matter where I live.

Mavank High is one of the best schools my children have attended. My middle child graduated in 2001 and I had two younger children attending. We had to transfer to another state due to my position. Regretfully the new school is no where as advanced as MHS.

There is something special about Mabank that I believe any child can blossom just like a flower properly cared for.
