Smith Elementary had a banner year in 2013-2014. So many celebrations! The school earned two distinction designations from the Texas Education Agency. The most in the entire district! One of their teachers, Dion Rivera, earned the district teacher of the year and then was recently announced as the Regional Teacher of the Year! The principal, Letty Roman, was selected to attend a leadership program, sponsored by Raise Your Hand Texas, at Harvard University this summer. Great things keep happening! It's a wonderful school to attend. I'm so glad I've had the privilege of sending my son there. I'm looking forward to another banner year!

I really can not say enough good things about this Smith. Last year was our first year in Magnolia ISD. My now 6th grader came into 5th grade behind everyone else (we moved here from Louisiana). I can not thank the teachers enough for helping him not only catch up....but excel. We are now at BB 6 (which we LOVE!) and making A's & B's. Our 2nd grader at Smith is also having a great experience in the gifted class. From the principle to the office staff to the teachers, we have been truly blessed to be in this district. I was very unsure at first about MISD, but, it's one of the blessings of living in the back of The Woodlands.

I am amazed at the quality of teachers at this school. I could not be happier with the quality of education that my children are receiving at Smith! The PTO also seems to work very hard to provide lots of fun activities for the children. We love Smith Elementary!

I truly love working at this school. This is the third school have worked at in my teaching career, and the principal makes it a wonderful place to go each day. In the past this school has not had the best reputation, but in the past few years the excellent leadership has really turned things around. The atmosphere is positive, teachers work as a team, and students are engaged and making great strides each day. Give Smith a chance because it is a great place to be!

We chose to reside in May Valley, on the edge of The Woodlands and Magnolia because we wanted our kids to benefit from a more diverse public education experience than they would have received in The Woodlands proper. Were we a little nervous about our kids attending Smith? Initially, yes. But Principal Letty Roman's leadership and care for the kids, and the teaching staff she has recruited, quelled any concerns we had. Our second grader has been in good hands since kindergarten there and we love, love, love Smith Elementary. Several parents opted to try sending their kids to charter schools, and then returned when they realized how good Smith is. And it keeps getting better.

As a parent of a new kindergartener this school year, I was quite nervous as to be expected! I can say that the first day and first week of his new school experience couldn't have gone smoother! I was so pleased with the organization and the quality of the teachers that I met. The principal was so welcoming to us and other families. Looking forward to a great year here!

We live in May Valley in the back of The Woodlands. My children have attended Smith for 3 years now and I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of the education and the attention they receive. This school has an amazing, caring atmosphere and there's not a bad teacher in the entire building! The PTO works so hard to make sure these kids get all the little extras and it's been a pleasure watching it grow.

Having been a former teacher myself in 3 different districts (big and small), I chose to move to Magnolia over the Montgomery and Woodlands school districts. I wanted the small town environment, but truly hoped for quality academics. I wasn't disappointed in Smith!! I have 2 children in the elementary school and every year they have had fabulous and encouraging teachers. My son is in the GT program and he feels challenged. I have volunteered in a variety of capacities and have found the leadership to be kind and encouraging as well. They not only know the kids' names, but also their quirks and strengths. I'm put out when I hear the complaints of the large hispanic population as the ESL classes have not hindered my children's education, but have simply added a cultural perspective my kids would otherwise have not had. I highly recommend Smith!

Fantasic leadership at this school. My boys have had gone to this school for 3 years now and we have had a fantasic experience here. We moved from Sugar Land and the schools were great there so I was worried about a new school and new school district but since being here we have had no complaints. The principal, the teachers and the parents at this school make it a wonderful experience for my boys.

Our daughter attended a much larger school for grades Kindergarten to Second Grade. The transition to Cedric C Smith for Third Grade was very smooth for her. The principal involvement was significant to the success of this transition. The smaller campus enabled our family to get to know the staff and other families of Smith. Our child was encouraged, challenged and supported by her teacher. We look forward to continuing the journey at Smith this year.

5 years ago, my oldest started Kindergarten at Smith. At that time, I considered Smith a diamond in the rough. I was so happy that we stayed in the area so he could be at this school. As the years have gone on, and my second child has started here, I could not be more proud that my children go to school here. The high level of education, respect and love for these children is seen from the teachers/staff all the way up to the administration. If I had to do it all over and get to pick where my children could attend elementary school, I would hands down still pick Smith.

If you dismissed this school for your kids in the past, you need to take another look. Whatever issues they had in the past, the current administration and teachers have worked hard to overcome and it shows. Our kids are getting a great education at Smith while also building good character and high self esteem. There is an active PTO that seems to work well to engage volunteers with teachers and staff. My family has enjoyed many programs and events held at the school. Most importantly, my kids love it there and are challenged academically. Our daughter actually cried at the end of the school year because she was going to miss her teacher so much over the summer.

Cedric Smith We moved to the area 3 years ago & when looking at schools, it was tough to know which one would be most appropriate & best for our little ones. I wanted a school where I could volunteer and be somewhat involved, good reviews/ratings, great staff/teachers & had some diversity. My children have had 4 outstanding teachers & wonderful specials: PE, Art, Music, & Library instructors as well. My only complaint is that I wish they offered specials more often than once every 2 weeks, but that is a school board/state issue not the school or principal. We have been impressed with the staff....they know all the kids names & to the person that made the comment "it feels like a family" - I couldn't agree more. The PTO is newer & they are working hard to get more parents involved, increasing fundraisers & are doing a great job. Nothing's perfect, but I'm def. happy that my kids are getting a good education, great care & are now part of the Smith family. I would def. recommend Smith to a parent looking for a school that offers great teachers/staff, good PTO, a chance to be involved, has good ratings/reviews & staff works well with parents to resolve any issues. My experience.

We moved to The Woodlands within the past year and received some mixed opinions about our children being zoned to MISD instead of CISD, but so far I haven't seen anything to cause serious concern or make us unhappy with the school... I will say, people that say they want the "diversity" that The Woodlands doesn't offer aren't going to find it here, as there are really only whites and Hispanics at this school (with white being the minority, as evidenced by the demographic of 54% Hispanic). In fact, on my son's first day (1st grade) he told me he couldn't go to the school because he didn't speak Spanish :| It doesn't really bother me a whole lot, but I can definitely say it creates a sort of separation that defeats the whole "diversity" aspect some claim to be seeking (white kids stick with other white kids, Mexican kids stick with other Mexican kids). But all in all, the staff seem friendly, the school is nice and clean, and our son is happy, so we are too!

We moved into The Woodlands and this is our 2nd year at Smith. At first we had some issues of which the principal quickly took care of. My kids have been so happy at Smith. My husband and I feel great leaving them with a staff that knows each of their names. The morning assembly is a perfect display of how personable the school is. Every school has problems this is not a perfect world, but I am so pleased we ended up in the Magnolia ISD and Smith and pleased with the teachers, staff and PTO. Smith still has a "small town" feel which is refreshing coming from an enormous elementary school.

My son has had 2 wonderful years at this school. We have been blessed with 2 incredible teachers and have been very impressed with the rest of the staff. It is very refreshing to have a principal that cares so much for her students.

I must admit that I was nervous about my kids going to school here compared to other Woodlands schools in CISD. However, we wanted our kids to have more diversity in their school to match the real world and not the bubble of The Woodlands. After the first year, I can honestly say that our kids are getting a great education at Smith. State-wide budget cuts in education have given all schools a challenge. I appreciate how the administration at Smith and MISD handled the cuts. The students are definitely the Principal's priority. Every morning, either the principal or assistant principal greets each student after the morning assembly encouraging them to have a successful day of learning. I do wish that budgets allowed for more extracurricular activities since the area does not have the deep pockets that some neighboring areas may have.

I was concerned because this school is slightly outside of The Woodlands. Less than a mile but we've lived in The Woodlands for seven years and our children attended the highly acclaimed Buckalew elementary. We really wanted new and larger home so we bought in the new section of Sterling Ridge West which is zoned to Smith. To my surprise, my kids love this school and so do we! The staff really cares about our children and it's a wonderful nurturing environment. My children have excelled with their reading program and have both made honor roll for two years in a row. We now have a beautiful new home and a great school. I hear the middle school and high school are excellent as well. Probably why Magnolia and Montgomery County is one of the fastest growing areas in the US. - Woodlands Mom

Very disappointed. Burned out staff and lack of accountability. They want you to address every issue big or small immediatly with your child, however when an issue arrises concerning a teacher, the principal refuses to listen. Sarcasm among teachers when speaking to young children is not acceptable, especially with this age group. It is obvious the lack of funding and increase in politics has taken its toll there.

My child is now in his fourth year at Ellisor Elementary. He is extremely happy and loves going to school. The GT program is very challenging and he is thriving with the help of our awesome teacher Mrs. Warner. The staff is actively involved in things that are going on and the PTO is top-notch. We love it!

LINDA Hoover, 1st grade teacher, is excellent! She really loves her kids. She is a conscientious instructor and disciplinarian. The kids who get her are fortunate and are certain to get a quality education. The schools as a whole is trying very hard to perform; however, it still falls short.

This school has an awesome Principal and Assistant Principal and Counselor. This school has been very helpful and accomodating for children with special needs. They will bend over backwards to help your child. Our child loves this school!

I beleive the school is just getting by. It's unfortunate that there is no same page for the parents and the teachers and the administration. If the school were run more like a business instead of like government I truely beleive teaching would become a prioriety and not the exception to the rule. The teachers are nice, though. We as parents should expect more from our children and expect the school to be more demanding of them. In the real world you go to your job and do the best you can to obtain a paycheck, I beleive the school is not demanding but just getting by with the children.

I love this school. My oldest child began going to this school last year and he did great. I really love everything about this school and now I have two more children that will be going this year. I am so excited to see how much my children will learn. I really like that the teachers talk to me on my e-mail.

My son was struggling with his reading and once he was enrolled in the reading rescue program provided by Smith his reading improved two grade levels in one semester. We were very pleased with the teachers that work so hard with struggling students!
