When I first moved into this area, me and my mom looked at reviews on schools and came across MHS. There were a lot of reviews that were bad, so my mother was pretty skeptical about it, but I insisted after reading all the things they had to offer. As a student I think is school is pretty great. I love the elective classes they have to offer, it's challenging but not to fast paced, and I feel like all the information I learn, I can remember because most of the teachers are great. I will admit, this school as it's faults. I'm amazed at how much students cuss and get away with it, maybe, the school needs to be a little more, on top of that. Other than that, I love this school. I love the classes, and the teachers. I love how its so easy to get involved and I'm happy that in this school I can feel comfortable.
It is obvious when an administrator or district staff submits a review to boost the ratings. No doubt there has been a transformation - anything is better than four years ago. An interesting challenge would be to ask all students to submit a review, as well as all parents. Each unit (where there is both parent and student) that submits a review gets some sort of recognition for participating.
We love MHS. There are so many opportunities for students here. The fine arts programs have improved a lot in the last few years. The schedule is also nice in that it gives students a lot of choices throughout the year. The staff are very friendly and there is a real sense of community on the campus.
Over the past three years I watched Manor High School improve in many areas. As a parent I have had the pleasaure of watching this growth. I have two children who have graduted from Manor and a ninth grader: if i wouldnt have seen the change for myself i wouldn't believe all the things the staff and adminstrators have change to make this school a more parent friendly and safe enviroment. I work at the school each week with the teachers, faculty, staff and student. The Prinicpal has gone above and beyond to reach out to the parents of Manor . I look forward to the next 3 years here at Manor High
The school has done a fantastic transformation in the last several years! There is a camaraderie among teachers, administrators, parents, and students that hasn't been there in awhile. There is a new commitment to excellence as can be seen in the performances of the fine arts dept, athletics, and FFA portions of the school. Perfect attendance has been achieved by half of the student population and is at an all time high. More and more students have joined the "Accepted Club" by applying to colleges and being selected to attend. Some of these include Harvard and Yale as well as UT, Texas State, and Texas A&M. There is a strong belief that constantly believes in student achievement with the desire for all students to be successful.
Manor HS is a progressive school that has focus on providing every student with an opportunity to get an excellent education. The staff and student body have made great strides to become an outstanding school with much school pride and a hard working staff that prepare it's students for the 21st century.
This is a great school to be at. The students are very respectful to teachers and to each other. The staff at Manor High School are some of the best I have worked with. There is a strong emphasis on collaboration between the entire staff. The culture has changed so much over the past few years. There is a strong focus on academics and creating a college going culture. The fine arts program is on the move and the athletic programs have made great progress. We have seen a PTO program come together this year which is bringing in more parents to help out at the campus. Manor High School is a great place to be.
Manor High School is doing great things! They are a positive school. You can feel it when you walk in the door. They use PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support- focusing on the positive yet consistent consequences for less desirable behaviors. They offer tutoring for any student, any day of the week. They are a diverse school and promote an environment of tolerance that prepares our students for the real world. They have a down-to-earth administration that is approachable and wants to know how you feel. I love our school! It is a great place for students, staff and families.
Manor HS has had some problems in the past, but it is doing a dynamic turn around. The climate and culture of the school has changed; it is working on fostering better parent and community involvement; it has gone up in state ratings; and it is working on increasing the rigor of the academic program. The administration and staff are committed to making it an exemplary campus.
I just appreciate how hard the teachers at this school work. They are trying to hold the students accountable for being on time and to attend school. 4 minutes is plenty of time to get to class. Why would you walk the halls for two days when all you had to do is ask the front desk staff for help. They have always been very friendly and helpful to anyone who asks. Parents are always welcome to walk the halls. In fact, some parents even attend classes with their child which I think is a great concept. I know for a fact that the school and the district has made many efforts to reach out to the parents and to the community by holding meetings to help inform parents how to connect with the school through the parent access system and also through many different communication systems like Twitter and their website. They have an on line calendar and even have a large one posted in the front office when you walk into the school. I really like that they have parent coffeee every Friday and that any parent can stop by the school any time and have lunch with their child. The staff at this school go out of their way to make high school a great expereience. Thank you MHS.
Worst school and worst district ever. Huge race problem that is NOT being addressed. A few good teachers sprinkled among some really poor teachers. The teachers that try to teach are fighting bad attitudes and apathy. I walked the halls for 2 days trying to find a teacher to help me enroll, they wouldn't even make eye contact and say hello. Office staff has a bad attitude and the attendance system is a joke. I agree with the 14 March review with regard to Personal Accountability Room (stated as ISS) some kids listen to music and goof off while others have to write school rules, this depends on if the teacher likes the child in question. Lots of children would rather go to PAR than sit in class and do assignments. Where is the punishment in that? I wanted to pull my 3 children after 1 month. Sadly, we had to stay the year. I am lucky that we can leave in 6 weeks. Yes, I am counting the days.
My kids have attended many schools because unfortunbately, we move a lot. This is the worst school they have ever been in. The admisnistration here is awful, the kids seem to be very obnoxious and disrespectful to the teachers. They have rediculous policies that make my head hurt- if a child is late to class-they send them to ISS which is like in school detention and my son hurt his foot and was arriving at his classes as the bell would ring or just after-ane they sent him to this a few times. While I see that they want kids to get to class on time- they should give them 5 min instead of 4 between classes so they can pee and get from one end to the other if need be without running. I think this policy defeats the purpose-in that if a kid wants to skip his class for that period, he can jsut be tardy and wallah! a free hour to do nothing. It also doesn't seem as if they care much about Drama- they did their first school play this year (I guess) and pretty much no one came to see it -the biggest turnout was about 60 people one night :( The kids worked hard and it was pretty sad. I cannot wait to move to get them back into a better school
Love the teachers and coaches here. Discipline starts at home, so as long as you provide your children with the necessary tools they need, the children will do just fine.
principal don't provide information to parents in a timely manner, also his staff make decision without parent involvement. They have the youth sign contracts without parents being present when youth have any kind altercation with another youth. This contract is not part of the student code of conduct. The intervention measures that is being used on any problem is in school suspension/out school suspension/ and or Alternative setting. We as parents are requesting to be involve with being participants in doing the student code of conduct but we have not been contacted or invited yet by any in the district. The Alternative program that is set up is not being well finance, but in all of this the principal in this setting have still done a great job in preventing the youth from being in any altercation to say these same youth have had confrontation on the regular campus setting.
The academics at this school are average, but there is starting to be a large overpopulation problem.
