Mooneyham is generally well run and the students perform well. That being said, there are some problems. First, the principal hires too many teachers straight from student-teaching, which means that the children sometimes get teachers who are still learning and are very young. Everyone starts young, but they can start at a different school district that does not have such high pay rates! This "hire them right out of school" approach makes sense in some districts, but Frisco ISD ought to be able to compete for the best, most experienced teachers, and I do not see that level of performance, with some exceptions. I also wonder how motivated the teachers are, as it seems that teacher attendance and year completion rates are low. I understand taking time off for babies, but there are too many other situations that have come up in the school that have caused teacher attendance problems. I do not see many teachers going "above and beyond." I would like to see more parent involvement, but we are pretty much limited to photocopying and fund-raising. I do not have a problem with the principal; she seems nice but is a little distant.
I always heard people talking about the greatness of charter schools and i as a parent also considered charter school for my son when he started his KG but gradually i realized that this is not what i was looking for . I changed his school and put him in another charter school but had similar situation. For me what matters is give the student the concept of what he would be working on and then test him/her. But at charter schools, this was not the case. I used to sit with my son to build his concepts which was teacher's responsibility to do. After he completed his KG, i decided to send him to public school and i am glad that i made the right decision. Teachers at mooneyham work with your child. The principal has great leadership. I have read comments about the staff or principal being a bit rude but i did not find any such thing. I have personally met with the principal and found her very courteous. She gave me all the information i needed about the school making it easier for me take my decision. My son loves the school. I see my son has become more confident. He is learning, discovering and growing intellectually. Mooneyham elementary is a great school.
Engaging Kindergarten teachers, girl likes school and teachers. Driving to school (car dropoff/pickups) will be a difficult task starting 2012 year due to changed traffic patterns. Could use more kids play area too ! Very good school.
My son is in 1st grade at Mooneyham and the teachers have been outstanding! We have had nothing but positive experiences with the school including the staff of teachers and the principal.
nothing special. very weird and unfriendly principal. she makes you feel unwelcomed. 5th grade teachers are horrible.
Strange school, teachers are good, but do not have good support from leaders, very weak principal
We have a child in Kindergarten in this school and I have to say that we are very happy with the quality of learing in general. Teachers are quite good as well. Principal is cordial.
This school has excellent teachers (for the most part) that really care and are passionate about how well their children perform. The teachers treat each child as an individual and have a lot of one-on-one and small group teaching, thank you teachers!
Mooneyham is wonderful! I especially love the 5th grade team and the Principal who is VERY friendly.
It is accurate to state that the principal appears to be focusing her attention on something other than pleasantries. However, I do think that she and the teachers are absolutely dedicated to providing a quality, above average education to every student. Many parents get involved on a daily basis and the staff welcomes parental involvement. The staff is also on top of things when it comes to the security and safety of the children. My children attend this school and have attended two other Frisco ISD Elementary Schools. This is a great example of what every Public School should strive to be!
The school is new yet highly organized thanks to a great Principal. Mrs. Cummings is the greatest 1st grade teacher.
It's always great to be in a new school, which means new everything. I did notice that the principal was not as friendly and genuine as her staff. Overall, the school good neighborhood school.
I have a preschooler in the PPCD/TLC program and the teachers and staff have far exceeded my expectations.
