McKinney was great and too bad that they couldn't reach an agreement to move to new location. I did read the "nepotism" comment on the quote before. I had that same question and found out from the Tx Education Agency that charter schools who have had 2 out of the last 3 years of an acceptable rating are exempt from the typical nepotism laws that apply to the traditional public school. And I asked TEA about the financial accountability of Life and found out after some research that they were chosen by the Tx Comptroller to participate in a "best practice" study because of the fiscal accountability and student reportage standards that Life School exhibits.
The school was run well by teachers and staff with a strong discipline reward standard. Very loving local staff. The big problem is the administration - lots of nepotism. They want parents to be involved only on a superficial level. I had asked for school board meeting minutes multiple times. Never received them and was criticized for not going thru the school principal. Very poor planning financially and they were unable to continue for the 2010 - 2011 school year and are closing the doors.
Life School was the best option in the area. Like all schools not perfect but still enjoyable to send my daughter to. So sad it will be gone and friends will be going to different schools.
Life is wonderful. We had problems with public and private schools, before we found life. Sure it is not perfect, but I definately feel my children are getting the best education available here. We were considering moving, but decided to stay because the of life.
Life school seeks to develop leaders with the necessary skills to achieve success in the 21st century. This is an outstanding school it has exceed our expectations as parents, from the fantastic teachers to the administration. We have seen our child blossom in only one year not only academically, but also in the day to day choices he makes for himself! teaching them charter traits and personal responsibility along with academics creating a leader and well rounded individuals. My child's k teacher set up a summer reading group for his class, which is not required by the school this is only one of the examples i have to offer in the excellence of life school.
We started at Life School McKinney in their first year and we love this school! My child was in Kindergarten and now 1st grade. He loves his teachers. All of the teachers are very excited educators. The classrooms were small but the teachers were able to manage the class at all times. Character building is a wonderful aspect that is taught in the classroom. The children earn 'Caught being Good' certificates which encourage good behavior. The parent involvement is a wonderful concept. I love the open door policy and the ability to observe in the classroom. The workshops that are provided to the parents are very informative. Mr. Bazan is a wonderful principal because he was so involved with the students and encouraged them daily. The Life school teachers had a wonderful first year. Most students have returned which is very exciting to continue bonding as a school family.
My child has been going there for a year and I am impressed with the improvement. Highly Recommend if Education is priority and school infrastructure does not matter.
