The school has offered several dual enrollment options through UTPA, TSTC, and STC. Classes have become much more challenging now in my senior year. I was only involved in academic competitions and am treated equally by my teachers so I can't agree with the football comments. My only complaint is that some discipline policies are too strict.

Pros: Small community and has plenty of extra curricular activities to join. The school is very active in helping students get into college (even if it is just into a community college). Cons: This school has very few dedicated teachers (I can only recall 3 good teachers within my four years there). I don't know if it's funding but this school teaches for TAKS testing and nothing else. Most of the students can barely distinguish the difference between "there", "they're" and "their", and still use fragmented sentences in a paper. There are very few dual credit courses. Also adding on to previous post, the teachers DO favor the cheerleaders and football players considerably more than the other students (i.e. debate, band, orchestra, etc.) and, of course, most of the teachers had personal favorites.

I have found that MISD offers my children a positive and safe learning environment. My children are getting a strong academic foundation as well as enjoying participating in a variety of extracurricular activities.

The school [seems to have] no control over its student body. [I think] the security guards are not relyable, and the teachers are to forgiving to football players. Everyone should be treated equal.

Mercedes High School provides a variety of classes that my children are enjoying and core classes that will prepare them for the future. They continue to expand with new things coming to the school.
