Smithfield Elementary School

When I saw the Istation assessment results for April 2013, I was not surprised at the kindergarten numbers for Smithfield Elem. The k-garten team is staffed with people who have mastered the art of teaching. They are great at teaching each student on their level. My son talks nonstop about his day at school because he feels learning is an exciting experience. I know this is a reflection of the atmosphere his teachers are creating every day. Mrs. Serviente s love of science is contagious. I am in favor of having a science lesson every day, because it incorporates language arts, math and critical thinking. I appreciate Ms.Dowling adding an extra digit to his math homework in order to challenge him. This small act of adding a digit to the math problem really kept him reaching for the next level. Ms. Wilson has created an environment in her classroom that allows a kid who can be tense, to relax and learn. Ms. Wilson went the extra mile by allowing my son to take AR tests. This one act has him asking to read every night. He loves and trusts Ms. Wilson. I am positive the success of each student should be credited to the high standard of teaching in this team of teachers.

Not the best choice to send your child to this school. We had to go as this was the assigned school for our son but I regret doing so as the principal has NO people skills and is very rude and abrasive to the parents, teachers, staff and students. The office staff clearly doesn't like their jobs as they take their attitudes out on the parents. Not once did I feel like my concerns were ever addressed. We tried multiple times to switch schools but Birdville ISD wouldn't allow us to switch schools; even though our son was at the top of his class in academic achievements. The principal and my husband almost came to blows at one of his "parent conferences" where he told us our son is a problem child; which he's not- doesn't cause arguments, fights, etc. I would consider evaluating the staff and principal before placing your child in this school. The 1 good thing I can say about this school is that the teachers DO care about the kids and really try to have good communication with the parents. however, the school is only as good as it's leadership and the principal shouldn't be allowed to be around small children as he scares them.

Smithfield Elementary isn't a new school or the biggest school you'll ever find but it has something special the other schools don't have! This public school has HEART with CARING TEACHERS, a FRIENDLY PRINCIPAL, and the best ATMOSPHERE for learning. My child has learned so much from teachers offering tutoring help with her problems in reading. We feel blessed to have our child in this school. I've read the reviews and the parent that has issues with "a few of the teachers and the principal" probably has an axe to grind. Our children are a reflection of ourselves and some parents want to blame the school system for their own lack of parental skills. The other parents I have spoke to agree with me--Smithfield Elementary is agreat place for students and parents.

I love this school! My oldest will start 2nd grade and my second child will start K in the fall. I could not be more pleased with the school.

I love this school. I have hated public schools for years with how I was lost in their system, but Birdville ISD has proven that things have changed. My son has been to another Birdville ISD school and mainly here and They have revived my faith in public schools. My child is autistic/nearly bipolar and the ARD committee at Smithfield had done so much for my child. The teachers and staff are great. At every school you will have your good teachers and bad ones. It is finding the right balance for your child. Stay on top of your childs education, be involed with your child, teachers and the school, you should do great along with your child. If your child has a disability get with school and set up an ARD meeting to get your IEP going and you should have a great time. I love this school, it is great.

This school has the whole package. The faculty is excellent, dedicated and caring. They treat students as unique individuals and make every accommodation needed to assure student success. The principal is warm and caring. He is a supportive leader who wants students to be well educated and his faculty to have the tools they need. The climate of the school is warm and caring from the front office to the classrooms to the common areas such as the library. If you want your child to be truly educated not just schooled and feel good while getting an education this is the place!

Most of the teachers are wonderful, with the exception of a few. They do have good teacher::student ratio. But as for the principal and he runs the school it's a little ridiculous. We have had our fair share of issues at the school that shouldn't have even been an issue. If you have a child with a learning disability, difficulty with something, ADD or ADHD this is NOT the school for you.... though both of my kids are on the A/B honor roll one has ADD and the other is ADHD with dyslexia and we have had no help with any extra tutoring or modifications. Its like they don't even know what to do or handle a kid that isn't "perfect" per say.

As a grandparent of two children at Smithfield I have had nothing but respect for the Teachers & Staff. My soon to be fourth grade grandson just thinks the principle is the best. We had him in Private school for Kindergarden with poor results and move him to Smithfield in 1st grand and he has just excelled in both Reading & Math. Keep up the good work!

We are finishing our Kindergarten year. The teachers have blown me away! They work so well together, and they truly have a heart for what they are doing. My son has learned so much. I have also been very impressed by the principal's visibility and involvement.

As a parent you worry about your childs school,their teachers and peer pressure. Smithfield Elementary is an old school and I admit I was pretty worried. Little did I know I had nothing to worry about. The teachers and all of the staff are wonderful. They really do go that extra mile for your children. The truly care about your childs success. We knew the teachers so well, they became part of our family. My kids have always been honor students and Smithfield Elementary taught them how to be a good and successful student. No regrets what so ever for sending my kids to this school.My kids are in middle school now and even though they enjoy their new school they really miss the teachers and elementary school.

Not to long ago, Smithfield Elementary's principal died suddenly. The district did an outstanding job at supporting the staff and student through this terrible event. Our new principal is fantastic and we are glad to have him.
