Our son has attended Great Lakes Academy since the 3rd grade, and is now in 7th! He has always loved this school since day one. The teachers, Principal, Executive Director and the entire Administrative team are awesome. They go above and beyond the call of duty! :) The best thing for a parent that has a child that attends Great Lakes Academy, is that you can drop off your kid every day at school and know they will be in good hands. You can drive away with out worry. You can leave with peace of mind. That in itself is worth a million bucks! We will forever love Great Lakes and what they have done for our son.
We have been attending the school for the past 5 years. Student:Teacher ratio at most has been 10:1 in the classroom (averaging 1:6). Low level of homework is sent home due to this ratio (less lecture and more interaction/indvidualized instruction). Great use of technology in the classroom. All of the teachers/administrators know the students/parents. All activities are inclusive. Great Lakes provides a safe environment in and outside the classroom - it provides opportunities for all kids to participate at their comfort level
Great Lakes Academy is a fantastic private school for parents looking for an above average school that takes care of their kids. Parents who have had less than pleasant experiences in other schools would love GLA and the way they address these issues or handle our kids. My son has been here thru his high school years and he loved the whole experience. GLA works with our kids towards their individual needs and ensures the kids get a good education and are ready for college. We are extremely happy to have found GLA at the right time for our son.
After other private schools and home schooling, we decided that our son needed a different academic environment. . We had spoken with several schools, but none made us feel as welcome as Great Lakes Academy. When we first spoke with the principal, before she even met our son, she seemed to have a real sense of him and what he needed. Great Lakes Academy has been all we had hoped for and more. Our son started attending in 6th grade and he will graduate this year. The academics have been rigorous enough to keep him challenged, but not overwhelmed. He s made wonderful friends that he will keep for a long time. The teachers and students genuinely care about each other. I am continually amazed at how the teachers go above and beyond what is expected to help our son and all the kids at Great Lakes be successful. If you are looking for a school that will support and encourage your child and help them reach their full potential Great Lakes Academy is the school for you! My son loves it here and has since his first day. He will be attending college next year and I know he will be successful because GLA has given him the confidence and academic tools to make that possible!
After being completely frustrated with public schools for several a friend strongly suggested that we look into Great Lakes Academy for our son Grant. It did not take us long to realize that we were in the right place after our initial tour of the school and conference with the staff. This is only our second year but Great Lakes Academy has been the biggest blessing for our family, and especially our son. I can truly say GLA has changed our lives for the better. The teachers and staff tailor every situation to the individual student and no child is expected to fit into a mold. Students are allowed to shine and be the individual they are meant to be. The staff at GLA understands that each day is different and you have to adjust to individual situations on a daily basis. I cannot thank the teachers and staff at GLA enough for welcoming us with open arms. Thank you GLA for all your love and support.
We cannot say enough great things about GLA, Taking our middle child out of public school was a difficult decision, but we are so glad we did. He was not thriving and he was heading in to a habit of just slipping by. He felt stupid and said so on many occasions. He lacked confidence. Today he is blossoming like never before, confident and making straight A's! The smaller class size, dedicated staff, caring admins are all was these special kiddos need. He will be at GLA thru high school! Thank you Great Lakes. We are so blessed to have found you!
GLA has been a WONDERFUL school for our son. He has spent 2 years there now, and the change in him has been dramatic. He turned 16 this year and has become such a more involved, independent learner. He is now more confident and mature. More than anything the staff at GLA has gone above and beyond in so many ways to help him and our family with any issues that have arisen with him outside of school when our daughter was extremely ill. They are like a second family to us and we have been blessed to be a part of their school. As a teacher myself in public school, I'm continually amazed at how well GLA goes above and beyond to individualize eduation for each student. We had been continually frustrated with the public school middle school and our son was so down on himself and his abilities. GLA turned this around for him and showed him what a great student he could be, with a little help and understanding. I can't say enough wonderful things about GLA!
Our daughter has variety of learning differences which include Asperger's and ADHD. We relocated in August 2012 to attend GLA. Hands down, this is the best decision we have ever made not only for our daughter, but for our family. The staff is so patient, compassionate, and truly concerned about the success of the children. Our daughter has not only improved academically, but has blossomed socially. The smaller classroom sizes have been key to our daughter getting the one on one attention she needs in the classroom. If you have a child that struggles in the classroom, this school is the place for you. It will be life-changing for the entire family! I am not sure where we would be today if it were not for GLA. We really look forward to spending the rest of our time at this school until our daughter graduates.
Our son has been at Great Lakes Academy since 6th grade and will be graduating (7 years later) from this wonderful school this year. This school is special and does a great job with all the kids. The staff is open to discussions with all the parents. The staff ensures the school offers a safe environment for each student to learn and grow. GLA has been a blessing for our son and our family. Our son has flourished academically and as an individual. Teachers take the time to ensure the kids understand the work and what is expected of them, yet they do a great job of challenging the kids to perform at their best. The atmosphere is very warm and allowed my son to do extracurricular activities (school plays, school senate, etc.) that he would not have been able to do at public school. He has grown to become a very responsible person, and nice young man. The one area that we initially experienced and has continued to this day: his self-confidence has grown and he continues to leave each day with a smile. We as family, we feel he is part of something special that has allowed him to develop personal and academic skills to help him as he enters the next phase to becoming an adult.
Our daughter has always preformed well academically, but she failed socially in public school. We moved her to GLA this year. We were worried about GLA being able to academically challenge her. That has not been a problem. She is being challenged academically, and she is making progress with her social skills. She loves GLA .. And we do too.
Excellent all the way around. Caring and supportive administration, teachers who go above and beyond understanding your child in conjunction with strong academics. This is truly a "community school." If you have a child with a learning difference RUN to this school. It is truly awesome.
If you have a child suffering with self confidence, ADHD, Dyslexia, Bullying, or being treated unfairly in public school. YOU OWE IT TO YOUR CHILD AND YOURSELF to just check out this school. 5the 6TH and 7th grade were a nightmare, my child was skipping school, failing, not doing any work, just going thru the motions, and mentally shutting down. And more than likely heading down a path to teen rebellion, drugs and crime. He hated school! He had no friends. He was failing 7th grade. A year into it, he has friends, loves his school and teachers and makes mostly B's. I would go into debt to make sure he attends this school thru graduation. Just take the time to visit, you wont regret it.
Great Lakes Academy has changed my sons entire outlook on school. He loves going to school. He's successfull, which in returns helps his confidence and his future. The only thing I wished, that we had moved him at a younger age! After attending K-6 in public school our sons self esteem was very low. Now 4th year at Great Lakes Academy it's amazing and so are the teachers!
GLA has been incredible for our son who has Asperger's Syndrome & ADHD. He is so loved and respected for who he is and he can feel that acceptance. He is learning so much and is way beyond his grade level in academics. Social skills are blossoming. The leadership is loving, kind, & they are all about the KIDS. We have loved our experience at GLA.
My child attended GLA. The teachrs went above and beyond what is expected to provide my child with the tools to be successful at college. Many of the tools or what I refer to as 'tricks' made a difference in college. Simple things like how to check class notes, how to ask for help from professors and guidance counselors, scheduling, and just as important social skills to make and keep friends.
This school helps students who have no where else to turn. It really does make a difference in their lives.
Great Lakes Academy has been a wonderful place for children who didn't get the kind of instruction or encouragement they needed in any other environment. It can be a place for children to become successful and feel positive about themselves.
Great Lakes Academy is a great school for kids with various learning differences. They provide a safe and nurturing environment with caring teachers and staff.
