My school is great. I go to Yorktown Education and I am learning a lot. I will soon be in 8th grade, and I could have never done it without Yorktown. The school only allows appropriate websites, gives math and typing practice, and the school has a nice area to run and play around. Yorktown Education is about to open 2nd grade to 3rd grade so it will become 2nd grade till 12th grade! And it is all in one building! There are many classes. You do not have to go to them if you don't want to. The classes are Chinese, Art, and Acting. The teachers are extremely attentive and help you with your strengths/weaknesses. In short, it is an amazing school and you should send your child to Yorktown Education.

This school requires two things of students and parents. They need to behave and be willing to do 5 hours of class or work per subject per week. These results are among the best in the country. High college grades, advanced coursework, and high test scores. My son is doing advanced work in his area of specialty and students average $75,000 in college credit and scholarships. They require appointments for stranger to visit for safety reasons. They do not put up with problem students and parents and expel them after trying to remediate them. These people are then unhappy and spread false allegations and rumors. They are very open and now require require student visits to keep the slackers out.

I find the reviews from intruders who were kicked out of the school for trespassing and from some expelled students, parents or competitors who will not give their names pretty typical of the students we have purged from the school. We used to want to help everyone and experience has taught us that this is not possible. This school is for students who want to achieve at a high advanced level. Not for slackers. Test scores are equal to St. Marks and Hockaday, schools costing three times as much. Every graduate has received academic scholarships or advanced college credit with grade A averages. Students who work and behave are happy and achieve at high levels. We can not work magic for a student who does not show up to school, is unwilling to do the school work or will not behave. These students are expelled and than are not happy about it and complain in hidden postings. We always get thank you's from our student base when we have to give up and expel a student. People who "are not getting records" have refused to sign the required document that allows records release because Yorktown follows follow the privacy laws.

This is a very, very poorly run school and its owner has a background in Sales & Marketing, NOT education. When problems arise, and you will not know about them initially, the owner and staff are very adept at blaming everything on the students themselves. My child attended this school for over a year and leaving was the best decision of all!!

Wouldn't recommend this school... Poor and abusive administration... Emails to teachers are often read and answered by administration, not teachers. Tracking of student progress (beyond each computer program's status update), is ad hoc. Had significant problems getting paperwork from Yorktown when trying to transfer our child.

After seeing the great reviews on the Yorktown website I decided that this would be the best school for my children to attend. I rang the buzzer and a young student came to the door and let me in and ran off. I walked around in search for an adult or someone to help me granted I didn't have an appointment. I observed a class in session in which some students were working and some were standing around as a group chatting having personal conversations non related to school which I found very distracting to those that were studying. I noticed a teacher seated looking down at her desk then she yelled across the room at a student "... didn't I give you something to do?!". I left with a bad impression of the school. I then called the founder he informed me that students are never permitted to answer the door and that he would address it. He informed me that his school wasn't one structured kids are permitted to study as they please even sitted on the floor and hence the reason they produce such high test scores. However, I asked if it was acceptable for teachers to yell across the room he asked me "what do you want me to do/say?". It's difficult to justify 9K on test scores alone.

This is truly a unique school that is on the cutting edge of what great education should be. There are no bells, teachers yelling or needing to do crowd control, bullying, or stressed out kids or staff. This is more like a college where kids have control of their own learning, and being smart is cool. As a parent, you don't need to set up an appointment to see your child's learning environment, you just walk right in. There is no dog and pony show. You see kids working alone, in groups, one on one with teachers, and other kids taking a break and hanging out with friends. It's relaxed, yet professional. The academics are as challenging as your child chooses. Some kids in my son's geometry class are electing to take algebra 2 at the same time. My son is technically an 8th grader, but is taking two AP classes. Try to do that at any other school! It's the Yorktown advantage. Utopian school environment with excellent academic opportunities, Yorktown is truly a hidden gem!

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

Oops! We currently do not have any student information for this school. We rely on the state Department of Education, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), and in some cases school administrators such as registrars and principals for this data.
