We moved to Pottsboro from a very large metro area. I am used to my kids having many extra curricular activities to choose from and they attended one of the best academic schools in Texas. However, my kids seem to really like the school. With only a few exceptions, I have been very please so far....... Although when starting Pottsboro my children had to repeat alot of the material they had already learned it did not seem to bother them. As for now I plan on keeping my children in this school system until they graduate in a few years.
Pottsboro high school is an incredible school, your children get first hand help, its rated the best school in grayson county in my book. I graduated from here and my daughter will to. If moving to this area i would really consider moving to pottsboro it is an excellent area and community, everybody is friendly and the lake is beautiful.
My husband and I both grew up in Sherman Schools in the 70s and 80s, when we decided to have children we were in agreement that they would not go to Sherman Schools, we wanted something smaller, were they wouldn't get lost in the crowd and forgotten about by the school staff. We have been in Pottsboro School District now for 19 yrs. We have 6 children 3 left in school, 2 elementary and one high school level. I can't say we have never been in disagreement with staff, or other students, but when we have, we have been able to work things out for the best with little effort. My children all love school and have done very well. As for drugs they will be everywhere, its up to the parent to help keep the child drug free! I have great confidence in P.I.S.D staff!
I have recently moved to Pottsboro in June 2006. I checked around about schools and alot of people said Pottsboro was the best. I had 2 children in the High School and 1 in elementry and have not been pleased with the schools. Pottsboro is all about who you know on how well you child is treated with respect in school and also the faculty is not encouraging to the children about education. My daughter was told she would be better off getting her GED by the teachers and principals when I had been fighting for 2 years for her to finish High School. I dont believe this is what teachers are being paid for. My youngest daughter was being harressed by another student and because she was new at the school she was being accused of mistreating the child because the child is well known. Not enough activities.
I think that Pottsboro High School along with the whole district is a very good place for kids to grow up! I am a Junior at Pottsboro High School and I have been here since the first day of Kindergarten! I dont think this parent has a clue what he/she is talking about. Our school isnt all about sports or extracirricular atcivities. If you think about it, we havent won very many sporting events in the last year, but we have been an exemplary district for the last four years.
There is a lot of drug activity at Pottsboro High. Everything is about athletics and there is very little focus on academics.
