I am the shortest kindergarten teacher that worked here from 2008-2011. I miss my K team and wish to come back to join them someday. I wish to thank the parent who posted a compliment posted on April 9 (my birthday) about Kindergarten in 2007. I love Writer's Workshop too! =)
All the teachers here are dedicated and passionate about their work. They demonstrate greate teamwork within their grade level, school, and work with parents to ensure students' successfulness.
I had several parents recommend a teacher to me and I decided to take their advice and boy was that a wise decision. Mrs. Gibson is clearly a professional teacher! I love her gentle spirit yet tough love approach to teaching! I believe requesting her to shape the mind of my little one was a great choice as I think she set a great educational foundation for my child. Thank you Mrs. Gibson! You are graciously appreciated!
Horrible experience. I always felt like an outsider even in the PTA. The 3rd grade teachers were not approachable and dismissed me when I wanted to discuss bullying. I feel that if I was a certain race I would have had a better relationship with the school and teachers. I don't know why my child's teacher would ask me how long I have been in this country. I was born here and my child and I do not have an accent. Ignorant much?
This school refused to help my then first grader. The teacher treated me like a mutant and blamed any and all issues on me for having been divorced! I moved from Richardson into this school district and my son attended half of kindergarten and all of first grade there. I actually put him in Harmony Science Academy instead of making him suffer another year in this awful school! It's all well and good if your kid falls in their neat little box, but GOD FORBID you kid is gifted or has some sort of behavioral problem! My son was made to feel like a freak! Ms.Gibson sat him alone and didn't insist the other kids even show him common courtesy that all PEOPLE deserve! I was willing to think it was our situation until I moved to Harmony. My boy has absolutely no issues there, and I refuse to think much has changed with him as a person. The teachers just let him explore, invent, and USE his mind more instead of focusing on the exercise of conformity. GOOD RIDDENS!
Coming from Dallas (DISD ARGHHH) I did not know what to expect from Stinson. My youngest daughter started here in 2nd grade and had a WONDERFUL teacher (Amanda Jackson) and she made our transition into this new district easier. My daughter is now in her 4th grade year here and has not skipped a beat! Her test scores have greatly improved and she has learned so much more. The school also offers a diverse community and we love that. I would recommend to any parent that is seeking out a better public school for their children to consider Stinson Elementary, I'm glad we did!
Stinson is an amazing school. I beg to differ from the previous reviews; I don't feel at all that Mrs. Salamone isn't approachable and warm. The staff and students are all very intelligent and well-rounded, and the curriculum not only builds on academics, but also character and values. I will be attending a private school next year, and I think that Stinson gave me a great foundation to build on.
I highly recommend Stinson for the teachers, principal and programs. My wife and I are active within the school and have a high appreciation for the dedicated professionals that work there. My son maintains a high grade average and is continually challenged to excel. The school is an excellent center of learning which is reflected in the student s academic accomplishments and the state s rating of the school.
My daughter is in this school. And opposite to the previous review, I really very happy about the school direction in educating the kids. The school has put a lot of empahses on the charaterristic building- such as helping others, volunteers for higher grades kids to help lower grade kids, no-bully, no cheating, be a good citizens, obey the law.... My dayghter was in another elementary(not PISD) for a few months before attending Stinson. Stinson kids are all well-behaveevery d during the release time. The other elementary were very noisy and chaos. The school teach kids to be well-rounded. Not just academically also characterristic building to be our future model citizens. I am really happy for the kids attending the school....
I have 4 children and each have had a Stinson experience. Two are still there. I find that schools, like business organizations, take on the personality of the leader. That is the case here. The school is bland and lacking in energy and dedication to pure learning. Typically, they teach to the plan and not beyond and the teaching staff is not encouraged or pushed to do any more than the slowest, least dedicated teacher. This is a good school but not a great school. A leadership change with attention down to the grade level team leaders would serve this school well. Signed Duke
This school has dedicated teachers all with a passion for teaching, they are not in it for the money, and if they are they do a great job of masking it. They also have great after school programs like the yearly play, PASAR if you are a working parent and more. I
We could not be happier with this school. Our first grader is motivated each day, eager to learn, and challenged in an age-appropriate way. Stinson reminds me of the quality public schools I attended in the midwest in the 70s. There is good organinzation, discipline, and good parental involvement; staff are friendly (though not the students' 'friends') and seem to enjoy teaching. We love Stinson!
We have been at Stinson for 5-years. My youngest is now a third grader. We LOVE Stinson. It feels more like a big family than a school. The teachers are dedicated, organized and creative. Both of my children are flourishing academically and socially. We are very happy at Stinson.
The office staff is efficient, but unfriendly. The principal seems efficient, but no approachable. I think she wants to do a good job, I don't see children coming up to her. She is respected, but not warm. The office manager is the same. You get the picture. The teaching staff is young. Although my children have had great teachers, half of them are not at the school anymore. Stinson has been ranked by a private organization as having one of the best science programs. I believe it. I learn quite a bit helping my 5th grader. The PACE (gifted program) coordinator, Mrs.B, is absolutely lovable and cutting-edge. She pushes the students to think outside the box. I am not certain of the cause, but the homeroom teachers seem hesitant to address individual needs. They teach to the curriculuum and not more.
The principal has lacks a lot to be desired. She micromanages her staff. The building has the appearance of an office rather than a school. School work is only allowed to be hung in designated areas. When comparing to other schools I noticed that fun in learning has been removed. Each grade team changes from year to year. The big question at the end of the year is no longer which teacher do you hope your child has it has become which teacher will be back next year.
WOW, what a wonderful school. The Kindergarten team is OUTSTANDING! They really focus on each child's individual needs. They believe strongly on hands activities and not worksheets to drive their instruction. My child is learning way more than I thought he would learn in his first school experience. The Kindergarten team has a terrific writing program called 'Writer's Workshop'. My child has grown tremendously as a reader and a writer. I just can't say enough about this wonderful school.
Not good at all! We were very disappointed with the Kindergarten program. We took our child out after we saw no homework coming home. The class pace was very slow. Overcrowding was a big issue along with the teacher not having that many years of experience.
My daughter has come a long way this year! Her teacher and extra programs the school has to put focus on bringing your child to level they should be at should be is great! I was very pleased with their real participation in her academics. They care!
