Coming into the area 3 years ago, we had high hopes of LCISD. We had heard so many great things about the district, their long term goals and the teachers. At this point, we are very disappointed in our experience at Cora Thomas. First and foremost, the lack of communication from school to home unacceptable. Teachers often complain that there is not enough parent involvement, yet at this school, when you try to be involved, you are quickly shut down. The receptionist is not very welcoming nor are the teachers or administration. When you have parents and grandparents who wish to be involved in their child's learning experience, you should put forth the effort to encourage it, not dismiss it as a problem. My students struggles began in first grade and after asking for tutorials, extra work to be sent home, lists of tutors for the district, etc, we got nothing. When you have a student who is with you ALL day and they have C's and D's in first and second grade, yet you don't send anything home for them to work on, that seems to be a real problem. Oh wait, according to the counselor and reading recovery teacher, that's "average" for their school. So it's OK? REALLY LCISD???
