Riesel school system has deminished in academic success since the new superintendant took over several years ago. Ten years ago, our school was focused on the acedemics of education and excelled, today 6 out of 8 teachers are coaches. There are very few equipped teachers at the school as the more advanced and seasoned teachers have all been 'ran off' to be replaced by coaches. Only a select few transfer students are actually forced to pay the transfer fee, depends on your last name. The rules of the school are not universal, also depends upon whom the kids belongs, and the rules arent even clearly defined. The school does not prepare it's students for life beyond the small town, as one teacher said 'it's great school for preparing your kid to be a farmer in Riesel'...it's so true. Dont expect much from this district.

I moved here because I heard that RISD was a good school district and I liked that it had small classes, but this school hos many unattended problems, one of which is the incompetency of some of the teachers. O another point ,I am constantly being bullied by other students just becoase I am different than they are. This school system is ridiculously political

Riesel is not a very good school, although I have seen improvements with the new principal. Teachers give too much homework and just overload the students. There is not alot of instruction, but teachers just give work for the kids to do at home. Riesel is very political in everything. Teachers allow certain kids to get by with things. Coaches put teachers and administration kids before others simply because of whom their parents are. The school board allows things to go on that are not right because most of them attended Riesel themselves and they do not know how things are at other schools or how they should be. Teachers and coaches constantly are pulling the kids in 2 directions. Alot of the teachers hate for the kids to be in extracirricular activities and do everything they can to make it hard on those kids, no cooperation.

As a former graduate of Riesel High School I feel lucky to have been able to attend this high school. I feel that I recieved an education that exceeded many of the people that I have met the following years of my graduation. I credit that to the experience and the quality of the staff at Riesel High School.

Although not a parents as a student I really appreciate my school. Our level of academic challenge is amazing, and although I hate it at times a appreciate it because I know it will benefit me in my future endeavors. It is exciting to know everyone at school and have all of the teachers know who you are and truly care how you are doing. I was interested on the stat sheet this site provides (not surprised) to see our school has some of the lowest paid proffesionals, but unlike the synopisis that the site gave I feel that in many ways we have an advantage over the larger schools that can afford to pay a lot. We have several teachers who have left larger schools and taken large pay cuts because we have a more quality student and they as teachers are more appreciated. They teach because they love it.

Riesel high school has exceptional learning opportunities, however, the biggest problem lies with the lack of attention to ongoing dilemmas such as student bullying and harassment. Several parents have had meetings and complained to the school staff about this problem. Unfortunately, this problem is still ongoing and the staff has taken no action to correct or prevent these incidents. Only phrases such as 'we will see what can be done' or 'we will talk with the students' are used as a tool to pacify the parents in to not taking any action against the school at that particular time. As Ive been told, lack of attention to similiar problems has been ongoing for years. I can only say that the school has been a big disappointment.
