We are very happy with Stony Point Ninth Grade campus. It is one of the reasons we chose the community we live in.
SPHS has a lot of racial tension. There are overtones of gang influence. Unfortunately a few bad students spoil things for the rest of the hardworking students there. Administration is inexperienced at the 9th grade center. District administration has some inept people in key postions which are unfortunately ineffective. District needs a vocational school or program to address the needs of at risk students who are not 'college bound'. There are some highly motivated, dedicated teachers at this school. Some need to be dismissed.
Still improving. Admin and Teachers are seriious about raising standards. Still problems with gangs but the community knows that this is a problem and there is more involvement by parents and law enforcement. The school will become an International Baccalaureate (IB) school next school year and we will (hopefull) see increased test scores with the influx of exceptional students.
Teachers at this school are extremely dedicated to new types of teaching methods. Students will be challenged and be engaged in the classroom.
Really cleaned up its act, the past years have been rough here, but the 04-05 years have really left a good impression. Would hihgly recomend the IIT program for teens that want to get into the computer world!
