Profile Completeness

BASIC

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Our daughter will been going to LTE for her 3rd year 2014-15 . She will be ending her elementary school years there. It has and I know will continue to be a wonderful experience for her and our family. I cannot say enough about a very special place. There has been some special people and words cannot even express what they mean to us. Thank you for all you all do.

Overall the school is great. We have had nothing but great teachers and the Assistant Principal (Mrs. G) is so Awesome! However, I haven't really seen what the PTA has done for the kids. I do see a lot teacher appreciation breakfast and lunches. I did notice the kids didn't even have balls for the play ground and they can't bring their own because of some mass punishment for another class. I would like to see the PTA focus on the students as well as the teachers. A previous parent nailed it when they posted that the PTA was like a High School clique.

We transferred to Herrington and couldn't be happier. LHE's strongest asset is all of the staff. The Front Office are warm, welcoming, professional and helpful. The nurse's knowledge, empathy and skill are extraordinary. She juggles students' needs calmly in a nurturing, attentive manner. The Specials teachers are all fun, kind and extremely talented. They make PE, music and art enjoyable as well as educational. The librarian and LA encourage a love of reading in an involved, exciting way. The ITS brings technology to the whole school with her expertise and collaboration. Intervention, SPED and TAG programs are strong and valued with tremendously talented educators. The aides are wonderful as well. The counselor is caring, approachable and involved and advocates strongly for all students. Classroom teachers are absolutely extraordinary. They support each other through teamwork, communicate well with parents and are dedicated to the kids. Every teacher is strong, committed and talented. Most of all, LHE is successful due to its leadership. The principal and AP are consistently professional, hands-on, compassionate, appreciative and positive and have created an exceptional school.

Herrington has been a blessing for our family. We transfer our children into this school because of the educational environment, focus on student success/belonging and the exceptional staff. The principal keeps the quality of staff interaction with the students, parents, and each other as a high priority in determining who is hired. The staff work as teams to ensure consistency across grade levels and there is a high level of leadership across the teams. This is proven by the test scores and knowledge the children are bringing home. The communication of what is happening in the school, PTA and classroom is exceptional. The principal is approachable, present and involved in the day to day operations of the school. One time our child had a problem with another student that could have continued at school. I spoke with the principal and counselors about the situation and they had a plan in place for keeping my child safe in the classroom within 15 minutes of learning of our situation. There are ample opportunities to get involved in our children's education. There is great comradery between the parents and we come together with the staff to make our community the best it can be.

We have loved this school since day one. The staff is warm and inviting, the teachers make the children feel like they are the smartest, most wonderful students in the world, and the parents are warm and welcoming to everyone. I have found that the Principal is the most hands on administrator I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She knows all of the students by name and makes it a point to welcome parental involvement in all areas of the school. The monthly coffees with the Principal are very informative and interactive. School goals, forecasts and score results are candidly explained in "layman" terms and all questions and suggestions are unreservedly welcomed. I can't think of a better environment for my children!

My children have attended this school since the day it opened. For the most part we love it. We have had a a few issues however. 1) Bad teacher/ and TAG...There is just a second grade teacher who doesn't need to be teaching, my child who loves school just lost SO much progress, other kids were moved to other classes, it was loud, and unorganized, she had no control over the classroom. My child was a year ahead and all the sudden didn't qualify for TAG, no one helped her be challenged, she fell through the cracks, was bored, started to dislike school. 2) The PTA, the first year it was the best PTA, they were friendly and open, it made me want to volunteer. After the leadership changed, the attitude changed, the emails had a rude tone, and at one point I went to go to the parent room to order a shirt, everyone was SO RUDE to me, I walked out going "what is different here". It no longer appeals to me or any other mom I know. ( unless you are on the board, then you are in the "in crowd", think highschool click) The PTA needs to return leadership to the first year team or do a SERIOUS evaluation of it's attitude. I am NOT the only parent who feels this way.

My kids struggled from day one at Herrington. I was concerned, because neither of them had ever had trouble in school before; my daughter was even an honor roll student before we moved here. I tried contacting their teachers, but got no productive feedback at all. The next school year, I enrolled them at another RRISD elementary school and suddenly they were back to being happy, engaged, and performing well - I have two honor roll students now! Herrington is pretty new, but that's no excuse for teachers who won't even communicate with concerned parents about why their kids suddenly hate school and make poor grades.
