The school administration needs work. They are extremely unorganized. They use an automated calling program to give messages to the parents. Sometimes I will get the same recorded call three times in one night, with three different school administrators having recorded the same or similar message that they did not bother to rehearse beforehand. The school was built in 1973, and it has taken 40 years for them to figure out that they have no structured pick up/drop off plan. Traffic there is a nightmare.
My son is going there for 6th grade. This is child #3 out of 4 so I have done the middle school thing before and have something to compare it to. My son likes this school and feels very comfortable. He spent the better part of 4th and 5th grade being bullied so I am relieved that he feel at home. I have mixed feelings about the band program. On one hand they keep you very informed, even including online concerts during class time. On the other hand, I feel very much like an outsider. Teachers so far a really good and some of them are super about e mailing and letting us know what the kids are supposed to be doing at home to be ready for class. Son did get a detention for not turning in an assignment but I am fine with that. I had so many issues with kid #1 and not turning things in that I am glad for a teacher that thinks it is important enough to do something about it. He has not missed an assignment yet. I hope that he continues to be happy there.
I am a parent of a special education child, and my son had the worst years in Coyle that next year we will go to homeschooling. I will not recommend this school to anybody.
I am a student at Coyle and just finished reading all of the comments with my Parents and we think that the comments from 3 of 4 were getting tough. I actually go to Coyle and know how everything runs. The thing that ticked me off the most was the first one on 4 of 4. Detentions, ae given out for diciplinary reasons. Your son probally told you that he just looked at another student but how do you know exactly? A teacher at Coyle would never give a detention out for no reason at all. Peace. /
I'm a parent of a student who has attended Coyle for three years and I really love the school. Her teachers in 6th, 7th and now 8th grade really care what becomes of her. They hold her to the same standard I do and they expect nothing but the best from her. They encourage and give her an ear to vent with. Yes I've had some teacher issues, but they were really minor, just simple communication or misunderstanding. The teaching and office staff are awesome. If every given an opportunity to allow your child to attend this school you will not be disappointed.
Coyle is a wonderful middle school with a competent and caring staff. The Principals and Assistant Principals were always available. After years of excellence in management, there's a new Principal in town and several changes have been put in places.........as expected. Hopefully, the kids will continue to experience a fun, caring, learning environment unlike other MS in Rowlett. Proud Cougar Parent
Wonderful Principal and Assistant Principals. Coyle has a teaching staff that shows great interest in the students and keeping Parents informed. Great Parent involvement !
My daughter went through Coyle. She had a great experience - awesome teachers, a strong background for high school, wonderful extracurricular activities, and opportunities to grow and mature. I commend the teachers, counselors, nurse, librarian, secretaries, and administrators for creating a positive, powerful, and welcoming environment for my child and all the others.
Thank you Ms. Burris for the 'awesome' job that you and your staff does every day! Every school has issues, and believe me no school is perfect. It is up to the parents to know what is going on in school and to be totally involved in their child's academic success as well as their social behavior. Coyle has wonderful teachers that go above and beyond for our kids. They give so much of their personal time to ensure that our kids are on target with their lessons by tutoring those who need the extra help. Coyle Middle School has an outstanding Athletic Department where kids are taught the importance of academic excellence to participate and represent Coyle. We have the number one Middle School Band in Texas because of the leadership of Ms. Zoffuto and Ms. Thao. Coyle MS Rocks! The Barreras'
I love Coyle. The staff is wonderful, and they have a unique way of teaching their students. That way I think is more fun for the kids and it makes them want to learn more. They have a very good punishment system.
Never had a problem with the teachers there. The students are fairly diverse in culture and have a decent grades from what I can tell.
I love Coyle!I think it is a great school. I really love the band program!I love all of my teachers too!I like that Coyle has a lot of activities because I like to get involved. I love everything at the school,so guess I can just say that I love Coyle!!!
I have substitute taught at Coyle and find it to be a good school in the GISD. From what I can tell, most of the teachers and administrators are doing a good job with the students. We have grandchildren who have gone through Coyle and more will attend in the future. I would encourage parents of the children who behave properly in school to be extremely vocal and insist that parents of students who misbehave in school show more interest in the situation. Perhaps more fines issued to those parents by the student resource officer would help. Teachers are having to spend an inordinate amount of available teaching time in deciplinary issues. The court systems could do a lot to help in these matters. T.Jones
I do not like this school. The principal is not friendly and neither is the office staff that works for her. I sent a note to a teacher via the office and never received a reply to my note. Not sure if this is because the teacher did not receive it or the teacher did not want to respond. I will say that my child did have an excellent Spanish teacher. My daughter is appreciative to this day for this teacher's instruction. I have choosen not to send my other children to this middle school.
We have had issues with this school in discipline. It seems like this school would rather discipline then educating the students on what could be a better solution for the incident they were involved. This is concerning since we have seen this school go down hill within the last 3 years drastically. This school seems like it is so overwhelmed they do not have time to communicate with parents.
This school is not very good. The teachers don't listen to the kids and give out detentions for the most absurd reasons. For example, my son received a detention for looking at another student, I dont think anyone should get a detention for that.
I have a 6th grade daughter at this school and could not be more pleased with the instruction and the leadership at the school.
