When my daughter became elgible for the G/T program at Ft Concho we really debated if it was the best choice for her. Why should we take her out of a school that she liked and that her older sister still attended? After one visit we were convinced to transfer our daughter and we couldn't be happier! Everyone at Ft. Concho is pleasant, professional, and FRIENDLY! Mrs. Barton and all her teachers and staff really seem to enjoy their jobs and in many, many ways go the 'extra mile' to motivate, encourage, and inspire ALL the students. There is just an air of positivity at Ft. Concho and it is sadly not the same at my older daughter's school (one of the highest ranking schools on greatschools.com). I especially appreciate Ft. Concho's emphasis on teaching fine arts. All students have the opportunity to study music, dance, and art in all types of mediums. There are numerous after-school enrichment programs, and it seems there is always something fun that Ft Concho students have to look forward to. Mrs. Barton has done a wonderful job involving the community, parents, and students to work together at Ft. Concho to ensure student success. We love Ft. Concho!

Fort Concho is the best school my daughters have gone to. Being military my oldest daughter went to three schools before reached 1st grade. The staff at Fort Concho is very helpful, out going, from the top down. We are always informed of whats going on at school. My oldest daughter is a GT student and is well ahead of her grade level on every subject thanks to here first grade teacher. This year we transferred our youngest daughter to Fort Concho simply because we love the school and staff that much.

I cannot comprehend how this school can only qualify as a "5"! We are a military family with a history of homeschooling two gifted little boys. When we moved to San Angelo and learned of the GT Magnet School here, we enrolled my older son based on his FL GT scores. My older son (who is also a grade ahead for his age) FINALLY was able to be in a classroom setting with other students like him! His younger brother had not yet tested for GT (Kinder) and was in the "districted" school (which rates higher than this - not for any reason I can see). He had trouble adjusting in that school. The Ft Concho principal, Ms. Barton, went out of her way to help him transfer over to Ft Concho to be in Ms. Graham's class. He flourished!! He is naturally rather shy and somewhat emotional, but he became very outgoing and confident under Ms. Graham's wonderful tutelage. What a difference!! Ms. Fluitt (3rd grade GT), in my opinion, is uniquely qualified to deal with the "issues" of GT students, allowing them the educational leeway they need to self-direct and go more in-depth than any normal classroom would allow. I cannot praise this school enough! Nothing else has come close!!!

I have a granddaughter in the GT program and cannot praise this school highly enough! She is in 2nd grade this year and could not WAIT to get back to her school & friends. As an occasional volunteer last year, what impressed me more than anything was that EVERY child was treated as a GT child. All one has to do is walk down the halls or note the t-shirts the children are wearing. Individual POTENTIAL is stressed at every opportunity. There is a YOU CAN mentality which permeates the philosophy of the staff as a whole. Every child is gifted in some way; the goal is to help the child discover what that gift is...and Fort Concho is dedicated to that purpose. Positive reinforcement and encouragement is noted upon any day's visit. WELL DONE!

I have a grandchild going to Ft. concho. The program there has improved greatly in the last 2 years due to the leadership of the principal!! She has implemented enrichment programs schoolwide that include all kids, not just the gt students. Their TAKS status has improved from Acceptable to being Recognized for the 2 years that she has been there.

My husband & I have loved the fact that Fort Concho is a smaller campus so it is more of a FAMILY feeling, ALL the teachers know ALL the kids. We have 2nd grader in the GT program and a 5yr old that can't wait to go next year to there for kindergarten. I give Fort Concho an A+.

This year the Office staff and teachers seem to be unorganized or confused under their new leadership.

The negatives: 1. Parent/teacher communication needs improvement. 2. Office staff is unapproachable. (Yet to feel welcomed) 3. No notes about what's happening at school or minimal communication. 4. Drop off area crowded. The positives: 1. Clean school! 2. Cafeteria/Janitorial staff helpful. 3. Childrens work displayed throughout the facility and they participate in the Accelerated Readers Program. 4. Drop off of students is monitored by staff until about 7:50. Safety seems to be one of their priorities.
