If you have a child who has a C average or below, they will get extra help. If your child has an A or B average, but needs help they will not get it. I am referring to Reading. Also, the top students are never challenged. As to supervision, the other mom is right on. They rush through lunch, including the line, in 20 minutes. The one person can not watch 6-8 classes by herself. Bullying is responded to only after you insist and then it is only talk. Check the state website. Eight other elementary schools in SAISD are doing better, including those with mostly poor students.

I currently have two children enrolled in Lamar. I am disappointed because I believe there is not enough administrative, office, teacher assistants, cafeteria and Janitorial staff to cover the needs of the children at this school. My kids are rushed through lunch and herded to the playground where they are not properly supervised. My kids tell me they sometimes do not finish their lunch. My 2nd grader as of April 25, 2006 is not reading at his level. He is reading 33 wpm at level 2 and he has never been offered after school help. We met with his teacher in the fall and she asked us to keep working at home with him, which we do, but he is needing extra help from a professional teacher. I don't like the idea of my 4th grader having different teachers for each subject. 4th graders need 4th grade responsibilites! Don't rush them!
