Schools been great for the most part. Admin is helpful and understanding and very patient. But this one teacher shouldn't be teaching!! My son gets folder marks daily for making noises, gets in trouble for doing the exact same thing as other students in his classroom while they get no consequences whatsoever!!! Referral for catching up with his class, trying to explain and then finally ignoring the teacher. 2nd one ON SAME DAY for going to the restroom with permission!!! And on the party day.... another referral for being excited like THE REST OF HIS CLASS for their Xmas party! WTH???? Ms. Perdue needs to find another career!
Both of our children, an eight year old girl, going into the third and a seven year old boy, going into second attend Glenoaks. Last year, both of our kids were given special opportunities to grow and develop in school. Our daughter's teacher, Ms. Sanchez taught her many forms of Mexican folkloric dancing. This is great because my wife is a native of Mexico and this enriches her Mexican background. Our son's teacher, Mrs. Diaz made special efforts to help my son transition to an all English curriculum, by putting him in tutoring. She also sent home books to help this process. This was good because the previous year he had been in a totally Spanish reading curriculum. The school was very inviting to me as a parent volunteer as I went on one of their field trips with my son and as I spoke on their career day. Glenoak's great!
Had a large parental influence on activities. Campus seemed a bit in chaos at times. The playground area is in severe need of improvement and updating. They are a typical public school and don't allow kids to be kids during recess &/or PE. There is very little extra curricular activities for the kids. Discipline is subjective to who you are. Students who learn and think 'outside the box' are considered to be trouble makers and problem students. Proper spelling is not a major concern of the campus except on spelling tests, context is the main concern in their writing lessons.
great elementary school..wonderful principal, good spec ed classes.
