We moved here from out-of-state and my son has attended 6th grade at Rayburn. The reputation is terrible, so I was very afraid. The kids do not have lockers, have to have see-through back packs, and wear uniforms. My son has survived, with minimal bullying. The teachers there seem to be really nice, helpful, and caring. The students there are what creates the issue. Academically, the school is pretty good.... socially, it's on the rough side. I'm hoping my children wont have to go there next year, as my daughter is entering Middle School, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. The Orchestra and Band programs are beginning to thrive.
the teachers at this school are great
I have been on this campus for many years. I have seen it go from marginal to excellent. The teachers are dedicated and passionate and the administration is student centered. But don't take my word for it, come and visit. Everyone (students and staff) is happy and friendly. And our TAKS scores just keep climbing. We have seen an increase in parent involvement as well. I am proud to say I work at Rayburn! Also notice that two of the three review are more than a year old.
Don't even think about putting your children in this school low class school. Very bad..
I am just happy this is my child's last year @ Rayburn Middle School. This is a very unorganized, unprofessional school. When I do call to get info. my calls are never returned. Except Ms. Rosales (counselor) she is great. The band director is also awesome. Maybe it is to overcrowded, or teachers are there just for a paycheck. My younger child will definitely not attend this school.
The academics seem to be focused on meeting the minimum standards. Students who meet the minimum standards, but need help to improve, are lost. Discipline appears marginal. Expectations by both faculty and parents appear low and the students are racing to the bottom. Great extracurricular activities.
