I went to Sul Ross for middle school, last year being my 8th grade year. I'd like to say that its a pretty decent school. Last year we did VERY well in history benchmarks, usually making 1st out of the district. Our math team did great, and I'd like to point out our reading teacher, Ms.Stacie Lopez was exceptional. Not only was she a great teacher, she was great to talk to. I really felt comfortable with her and it was great to have a teacher like her. It's true that many students say it's a bad school and it's 'ghetto' but it's actually pretty good. I did have a good middle school experience being there, thanks to some of those wonderful teachers: Ms. Schott, 6th grade english; Ms. Hirota, band director; Ms. Loudermilk, 7th grade english; Ms. Lopez, 8th grade pre-ap reading; and Ms.Rushing, 8th grade history.
I am a student currently attending my eighth grade year in Sul Ross MS. I would like to say that the campus is enchanting compared to the other Northside ISD middle schools. Sul Ross frequently gains the top spot in the district in writing and US history TAKS and benchmark tests. The teachers are friendly and helpful. There are many opportunities for scholarships in this school, for I believe, 12 7th graders are chosen every year to receive a scholarship. The school's sponsor, Capital Group Companies, helps out the school immensely with funds and mentoring. The Number Sense team has done well this year, for they beat the other schools without a problem! the National Junior Honors Society and Student Council do many fun activities, and the school has many more extra curricular activities! It is a very safe campus, for the bond that passed recently, installed new cameras. 5 STARS!!!
