Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I love the teachers (most of them) I loved the school when my child started 6 years ago, and now I'm disappointed on the family involved activities and there are no fun activities, and if they do get some free time its 20 minutes. I hope when the remolding is done there will be more fun and playtime so kids will be happier and less distracted.

Principal has little power, sad to say. She let's the little people step on her toes. I'm not happy there anyone. The sun is not shining anymore at that school. We need a new principal with power. Oh, don't join PTA. Lots of playing around. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.

School can improve by removing PTA. PTA has been a big joke to all this year. The school is being rebuilt and looks very nice. Great teachers and staff.

Our school is being rebuilt. We are all so excited with our new building. So far it's looking good, it looks more colorful. Glad this is happening. Our teachers and students deserve the best!

Love the core knowledge curriculum, teachers are great, administration is supportive and have an open door policy. I like the way teachers take the time to know their students and make sure they feel successful. I have been in other schools and I personally think this is one of the best because hard work and dedication can be observed in all.

I had all my children go to Hawthorne. They have grown up to be wonderful students in high school and now in college. And one has now gotten her bachelors in communications. A good start was the foundation they needed to keep pursuing their education.

4 out of 5 is my opinion. I will say my child has been a student there for three years now, and I am very happy with Hawthorne. Of course there are some minor issues, but over all it is a great schoool.

I recently moved to San Antonio from Berkeley, CA. I chose to move to the Alamo Heights school district. Then I found Hawthorne. I am very happy with the school. The staff is great. The principal is amazing. I have really high hopes for my children. I want them to go to an ivy league college. If this is what you're looking for too. This is the school for you.

Hawthorne is a wonderful school. My ratings are high. Great Teachers and A wonderful Principal. I am a grandparent here and enjoy everything about this school. The involvement between staff and students, parents and even grandparents. Wow! I read someone thought it was to strict well maybe but considering the grades they have at Hawthorne we need some strictness. We have to remember that we are dealing with 3 year olds thru 14 year olds. That is quite a stretch. All in all I give Hawthorne Academy 5 stars.

Although I lived in the Northeast ISD, I found this charter school and was attracted to their philosophy. My son was a young Kinder entering school at age 4. My hopes were extremely high for him. Our experience was awful. I will say that the Principal took action for me and switched him to Mrs. Keys class. She was amazing, and there was a big change in my son.

Excellent teaching at many grade levels. My daughter has been there since Kindergarten. One grade level though has a team of teachers that could benefit from refresher courses on how to treat children and how to communicate with parents effectively. Aside from this blight, my daughter has received an excellent education. The school has high standards both academically and socially. The one thing I wish could be provided would be Pre-AP courses with rigorous instruction in effective analytical writing.

Great school and outstanding staff. High percentage of parents are involved with teachers and staff. My daughter has been at Hawthorne since Kinder and currently passing to the 3rd grade. She loves it here!

Good teacher retention and a nice school but they really need to give the children more recreation. Even my kindergartner was stressed out and my other child could never be 'good' enough to get even one recess a week.
