Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Bexar County Academy , I agree entirely with the last post on 07/16/14. My children have been there 2 weeks and I am pulling them out. I could not believe how hard it would be to set up a meeting with the principle. My child was sick and the office told her they lost my phone number. I have a kindergartner who watches "learning videos" throughout the day. I agree this school needs to be shut down , I feel bad for the parents that just go with this flow. Your children will pay in the end.

BCA is by far one of the most unorganized education institutes that i have ever been encountered and not to mention the unprofessional and lack of knowledge from the administrators to the teachers. The teacher(s) build 'buddy' relationships with the students and therefore the respect for teaching is never gained. in particular with my child, the teacher was not reporting the actual grades which caused my child to fail since the proper tutoring and special attention needed was not being recognized as needed. Do not enroll your child at this 'school', you will regret it. If your child is already enrolled look for another school or please pay close attention to their grades and ask plenty of questions. I guarantee you that more than once the administrators will stumble in getting you answers and for sure will avoid you. This place is not fit to be called a school!!! Keep an eye out for prep for the STAAR tests as they really do not take this serious as they should. The entire administration and faculty should be replaced or better yet hopefully TEA shuts them down to save the children. This is when 'No Child Left Behind' should kick in.

The school isn't much for looks, not as nice as NSID schools. It has been a wonderful place for my son. He loves his pre-K teacher, Mrs. Hooti, she's an amazing teacher. He's learned allot, likes to come to school, learn, play with his classmates, sing and learn his letters.

My daughter has been@ BCA since Pre K3 she is now going into 2nd grade. She has learned so much @ BCA, Mr Sims is a very nice and he is very wonderful with the kids. Ms Jan, Ms Mc Kerrow, Ms Janet, Mr Nelson are also great teachers and staff. They are very kind and carring to the children. Ms Mc Kerrow has taught my daughter so much. Mr Smith is one of the after school teachers and he helps my daughter with her math and he has gotten her to understand it better. i love the school and the staff is great... Thank you BCA...

I love these kids and the staff at this school. I taught here and witnessed the commitment by the staff and teachers. Resources are scarce but the children liked it here and the size of the school allowed students, staff and teachers alike to get to know each other, and watch the children grow through each grade. I believe the children will be better off for the experience, despite not achieving Exemplary status yet.

I have twin daughters that are in pre-k and they have learned so much even though I was not sure about separating them. They both have learned a lot like their planets and much more. I really like the staff and love their teachers they both have a unique way of teaching.

Very poor organization. No school nurse. However, Pre-K is awesome! They are like another school all together! Very well organized & structured. Good job Ms.Yazdani (my child's teacher) & all Pre-K staff!

My son attends bca as a pre-kinder and for the most part I am satisfied with the school. His teacher seems to be willing to teach and my son has learned quite a bit. Untill recently I had no reason to question the school but I came across some very rude faculty and staff. I did not appreciate the way I was treated as a parent and the way my situation was handled. I beleive that the faculty and staff need more training in dealing with parents and students.

I have got to say that this school never ceases to amaze me with their lack of organization. I don't think my child is getting the deal of a lifetime here. I understand charter schools do not have to follow 'normal' regulations, well, that shouldn't be reason to slip into the cracks. This school needs a major overhaul. My child will not return to Bexar County Academy.

I am a teacher at BCA and we teachers do spend quality one- on- one time with our students. There is no limit for the amount of time we can spend with your children. Many of us stay after school and on weekends to help our students succeed. We have wonderful faculty members and I would gladly send my child to BCA.

I think BCA is an below average class. The teachers are okay, but most of them seem inexperianced. My child likes school, but I find that the one-on-one teaching is not as great as I would like it to be. I was told that there is a limit on the time a teacher can spend on a student and I find that surprising. I thought that was a job of a teacher. I put my child's education first and formost, and for that reason I am glad I will be sending my child to another school next year. If you look at the schools stats, there not impressive. The bullying is an issue also. They need to make major improvements to that school!

My child is in Pre-K. BCA is a school where the children come first. Each child is encouraged to do their best. Ms. Yazdani always praised the children, greeted with smiles the parents and children. She is highly skilled and a graet teacher. My child learn more than she need. Also, the principal is kind, visible and a great leader. I love this school.

I would like to thank you all for the hard work you put in both my children's life. This year I have seen a huge change in my sons' work and respect. My kids both come home and look forward in doing their homework to gain an A. I never heard a 6 years old respond to a parent wanting to do his homework. Most kids want to play with toys and watch TV. But they way this year has been a different year compared from last years, way so much different. My son had a rough time last year and the faculty and staff did a great job this year, from the administration down to the staff, my sons have pride in themselves. They pay more attention and show lots of respect. Thank you teachers and staff for taking care of my sons, they are in good hands!

The quality of academic programs are great, the teachers are always updating me on my children s improvement, parents are always willing to volunteer to help out for every activity--great school--Im very happy with this school. All the faculty and staff are very good to work with. The school is very well kept and all children are treated equally. The staff/teacher aides are one of the reasons for its excellence (along with their unquestionable commitment and dedication); my children are very smart, thanks for your help. I also can t forget the most important part that is the principal Ms. Gemma, my children can t stop talking about how much they enjoy in the school, always visible and talk to the parents. Her plan of activities are magnificent like the Harvest Carnival and forthcoming Mama s Boy on November 30 and December 1. Ms. Gemma s ideas are outstanding and marvelous. The school is in good hand because she takes good care of the students, staff and parents. This year is an awesome! I will highly recommend this school to all my relatives and friends. You are all great!

This school had totally made a 360-degree turn around. I've been in this school for 3 years and I like the changes made by the new administration under the leadership of Ms. Hernandez. Many extra-curricular activities to choose from and the homework policy -Monday to Thursday had a great impact to my child. Parents Need TO Follow The Rules And Regulations Of The School. I believe they are organize. Their smiles are awesome and contagious! BCA keep it up. We are staying in this school now.

I used to work in this school. But i never regret on resigning. Its indeed a nightmare! thanks to the teachers who show love and concern.Woai featured 'failing your kids' is really true. Not satisfied and full of resentment, the decision i made gave me a great relief. Now i can breath better. I didnt know that my supervisor attending classes during school days knowing its so hard to ask permission not to attend the meeting afterschool (which is sometimes last minute notification). And harass me to choose? Meeting or my continuing education. Fair? I resign.

My child attends the school, yes at the beginning of the school there were problems because the enrollment had doubled and new programs and trial programs had to occur. My child is learning and more disciplined then ever before. I am an employee and the school focuses on love and care for the children. And have develop bonding activities to assure that the students, parents and staff work together as a team. Overall I feel they are at least 80% workign toward a common goal. The principal and team works late to assure projects are completed in a timely manner. She distributes homework for the students to all of the teachers. She has her email available to assure students are meeting mastery. Also, the teachers meet the highly qualified and excited to teach their students. It is overall an excellent program in which Im glad to be a part of.

My child attends the prekindergarten and it has expand to 10 classrooms. The teachers are structured and focused they appear to love the children. My child's teacher is the team leader and she works hard. I like the principal at the school because the children love and respect her she stops everything she does to help someone.

I go to this school. It doesn't really teach us anything that we need to know and almost everyday all the eighth graders have different classes. They are so unorganized. They are not good when it comes down to giving us directions on doing our homework.I mean we don't even have any books because we don't have enough for anyone. Also the food tastes so disgusting my friend threw it up.Sometimes they don't even have enough food for all of us eighth graders we had to eat crackers and also they never ever have enough choclate milk and most of the students like that you know so we have to drink whit milk.Well im a student at this school and i really don't like it they need to improve alot.

In one word this school was Chaos. Teachers are told one thing and then another, and the school is left disorganized and filthy. Many teachers have to share aids (if they get an aid at all) with up to 24 children in a pre-K classroom. I'm not sure about the safety or legality of that. Teachers get no support from administration--working long hours with no accolades, only constant slaps on the hand for petty complaints. I would not want my child in this school for one moment. If I were a prospective teacher considering employment I would run past this school and never look back. I believe the state should reconsider this charter school and investigate the allocation of state funds that support it.

My biggest disappointment with the school is the lack of respect towards the few parents which are making an effort to keep the school running. There is retaliation towards concern parents who express their feelings with regards to how the school is operating. On few occassions I've requested to have an address or phone number to call the school board but was told I could not have the information since it was private. In my personal opinion the problem rest on the shoulders of both mom and daughter running the school.

I was an employee at this school and I will tell you it was a complete nightmare. The misdirection of the new principal was what caused all the good teachers to leave and never come back. The students were not being taught. The lack of the teacher's concern on their students learning was not there, unfortunately those are the teacher who are still there. All children have a right to an education and anyone attending this school will not get an education. I am glad that I am not there any longer. They really need to close this school.

I am very dissapointed when I attended with my sister in the graduation of Kinder and 8th grade. I saw the son and grand daughter of the teacher aide and secretary of the school which are on Pre-K level. They were given the privilege by the Principal to join, playing favoritism. How come the parents of Pre-K were not inform about the set-up? Any parents would like to see their child graduate even in Pre-K. Favoritism plays well in this school. I am not going to enroll my 2 kids anymore. I beleive it will continue to go on. I can see that the principal favors so much on these people around her. She should hear the side of the teachers who work very hard in the school not to only one or two persons who is not a teacher at all. We are out of this school!

I was disappointed, the administration was very poor and the teachers were always in a state of confusion. The principal just told me what I wanted to hear in order to keep my child for enrollment numbers. I finally got smart and removed my child. My advice is to just stay away, it will do your child more harm than good.

Bexar county academy has not meet my expectations as a good school. Homework is sometimes not reviewed. There have been fundraisers where I was not notified of the outcome, no letter sent home on the winners or prizes given. Field trips are not arranged accordingly. They send home letters of current events that will be taking place but leaving out which grades are participating in what or which grades are going on certain field trips. They do not properly notify you of pictures being taken and at a point I did not receive class pictures and was not notified of what the school was doing to fix the problem or when we should expect the pictures. To my opinion this school should not be allowed to operate if simple things like proper notification is not taking place.
