I relocated to San Antonio from Washington State two years ago and did a LOT of research on schools. I chose to be in the Hardy Oak Elementary, Lopez Middle School and Reagan High School - part of the NEISD. Both Hardy Oak Elem and Lopez Middle School are the top rated schools in all of San Antonio. I struggled a little bit with how strict the schools are here (all of the rules parents must follow!) and the sizes are HUGE. (The middle school has 1200-1400 students.) However, you can't really escape that here - it's just how they do things here. The boundaries for the elementary school have just changed for the upcoming school year, so be careful as you look for homes to be sure the NEW boundaries will be sending the kids to the schools you want. The neighborhoods I know that will still be going to the Hardy Oak Elementary are: Mesa Grande, Mesa Verde, Echo Canyon. I think that The Heights at Stone Oak and Terra Bella will also be going there, but I would not be surprised if they get moved out of the boundary in the future because they are new construction and still growing. Definitely stick to NEISD schools, and you'll be ok. If you want the best of the best, then go to Hardy Oak and Lopez MS.77981
We are a retired military family that moved from San Diego to San Antonio in the summer of 2009. The NEISD school district is where you want to be for sure. There is alot of new construction all around the Stone Oak area, so there are new boundaries being moved & created with each new school year. I have 3 daughters, 1 in the elementary level and 2 in middle school. We also did extensive research on the schools here, as I am a elementary teacher. We choose Cibolo Green Elementary , Frank M Tejeda, and Johnson Highschool. These are all brand new and top rated high scoring excellent schools. The main difference we found between Ca to Tx was the GT system is completely different. So our girls were in GT in CA, had to be retested here and were again put into the program, however this district has their own version of what a gifted student is. This is a lovely area to raise a family, good luck with your move!78257
