This is a "new" school that opened in the Fall of 2009. My son began his high school years there and we were very, very pleased. He had dedicated teachers who really, really cared about him. And, they kept in touch with us as well. He graduated this year and is now attending a private college. I read a person's opinion, about not believing "all the hype" about IDEA Public Schools, and that's too bad. I should know...I'm an IDEA parent and proud of it.

I was very skeptical about enrolling my son into the Idea Charter School system because of all the horror stories I had heard from other parents. It's amazing how many excuses a parent will make when they find out that the school is no longer responsible for their childrens failure. After reading an article on US Today and learning that Idea College Prep was rated #13 in the US. What more could a parent ask for? I decided to enroll my incoming 6th grade son and WOW!!! I've gotten nothing but wonderful feedback from my son and his teachers. The material that is being taught just amazes me everyday. I know one area that my son needed help on was organization, but now he's organized in everything that he does. Somehow this district of charter schools has mastered how to movtivate the students. Great Job Idea College Prep San Juan!

About the tests


In 2012-2013, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) was used to test students in reading and math in grades 3 through 8; in writing in grades 4 and 7; in science in grades 5 and 8; in social studies in grade 8; and end-of-course assessments for English I, II, and II, Algebra I and II, biology and US History. STAAR is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Texas. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

The different student groups are identified by the Texas Education Agency; if there are a small number of students in a particular group, the state doesn't report data for that group.
