All 3 of my boys (Sophomore, 4th, and 2nd) attend Smyer ISD. We came from Frenship School District and I feel that we made the right move. My kids are doing wonderful in school and sports. I plan on making Smyer my permanent home.

I have two children that attended Smyer and two currently enrolled. My older children graduated with college hours. My two younger children will graduate with well over 10 hours of college credit. That is amazing for a small school. We chose a small district so that our children could participate in everything they wanted instead of being weeded out like they are in the larger districts. My children participate/d in band, student council, cheerleading, athletics and many clubs and organizations. They receive a well-rounded education. I agree that the parents are not envolved like they should be in a small district, but I disgree that Smyer does not have any athletics to be proud of because our girls basketball team has been in the play-offs repeatedly. I also don't think you judge soley on winning record but whether your child learns/enjoys the sports.

I feel this school overall is good with good people living in the community. But, this school does not offer enough extra curricular activities. They don't offer Art which every kid loves to do and art is so good for kids to express themselves. My child hates band and they have nothing else to choose from. This school needs to take time to go through their grants and work on getting more educational teachers and let go of some of their coaches. Way too many coaches. When I attended Smyer we had 4 coaches and we did really well. Now we have way too many and nothing to be impressed about.

I think the school is great. Parents involvement is often poor but there are the few who don't want to miss anything. The offered academic progrms are tough but fair and hopefully will prepare the students for college. It seems that those students who want to be involved and good students get over-whelmed and stress is a factor. They want to be involved in everything and to do well.

My children went to Smyer most of their academic career (beginning in the 1st grade). There were some amazing teachers that left great impressions on all of my kids. I could tell that the teachers really cared about their students. However, there was a negative side to going to such a small school. When my children entered college, they discovered that they were not as prepared as they would have liked to have been. This was not the teachers' faults, it was simply that they couldn't offer all of the classes that a larger school could.
